Okay... I know I'm probably looking like a total noob with my now 9 posts and all these crazy questions, but....

How hard would it be to remake a contiuity list? I guess that's the right word for it... I was looking at the rereading valiant stuff and I saw mention that at one time there was a list so you could read Valiant from start to finish in the order they were published and it seems like such a great idea, but I guess the original was lost? Anyways, I'm just thinking... the published month and year are on the comics right? So in theory the rest of it should be pretty easy for someone who has all the issues.

Anyways, I don't know... I just wanted to throw in out there because I want to start rereading mine, but I don't even know where to start and I'm also try to catch all the pokemon... er... valiant... but I don't really have a rhyme to my reason right now.

No problem, questions are good. Here is the release order on this very site through '96 I believe.

Hope it helps.

That link is helpful for what you're asking for.

I've been doing that exact same thing myself; re-reading through my collection.

I've found it's not so easy to just sit down and read through a run of any particular series because you always find stories that overlapped with other issues.

It's handier to just sort your collection by release date and then read them that way.

MOTA why is Secrets of the Valiant U. #3 so high up the list? If it is a continuity list all the future books should be at the end.

Think of VALIANT time as you would a river, and each river is, for the sake of this conversation, a year.

You have one river for 1992 (i.e. Solar, Harbinger, X-O Manowar) and one river for 4001 (i.e. Magnus and Rai), with the Lost Land as a place where all the rivers converge.

Time in the VALIANT Universe, while linked (i.e. what happens in the 1992 river can affect what happens in the 4001 river) isn't linear, it's concurrent.

At the same exact moment that Solar died in Invasion in 4002, the events from Second Death played out in his series almost 2000 years earlier.

To answer your question, the events from Secrets of the VU #3 take place before the events of Original Magnus #1, so it's on the list first, and the reason the future books are mixed in with all the others is because the events in them take place concurrently as the events in the other books.

The Chaos Effect is the best example of this.

Makes sense that way. Unity and the Chaos Effect would make it tough to make a straight timeline.

Exactly. And that's what Erica wanted to fix. She wanted to turn all the different rivers into one single river that flowed time linearly.

So, she failed and you fixed it :P

Hmmm I've been reading them all in order of that publication list on the site. You think I should continue doing so or start going off this list? May have missed things though.

It makes more sense to me to read the books in the order they were released as that was how anyone buying them new would have read them. I don't think you'll get anything out of reading Timewalker #0 first except maybe confused... :? :?

I was talking with ManOfTheAtom last night about this, and I think it makes more sense to read them in the order they were released IF you're reading them all for the first time.

The "first time" you read, it should be like you bought them off the stands.

Once they've been read, and you've decided to accept them all as "canon", you should probably switch to the storyline order.

My guess is that most Valiant fans have a "jumping off point" though that's based on the original release date, not the plotline date.

So, in short:

HOW TO READ VALIANT:

A) If it's your first time, OR you know that you only accept SOME books - read by RELEASE ORDER

B) If you are (re-)reading ALL of Valiant for/in continuity - read by STORYLINE ORDER

I agree with that :)

no way! that is totally wrong!!!!

there is no way you can even remotely justify reading bloodshot 6 before rai and the future force number 11. I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THIS!!!

If mike insists on this order i will vow to leave this site forever!!! i'm not kidding! this is totally unacceptable!

So, she failed and you fixed it :P

Great list Mike!

Till the day I die ;)

I mean, you are kidding about it, right? You chose those two at random and there's no actual reason for why Rai should come before Bloodshot, or did I miss something? lol.

<--- dense, doesn't always know when people kid, lol.

I have considered revising the list so it falls more in line with the Unity chapters instead of placing the future books at the end. If I did that Rai 11 would come before Bloodshot 6, lol.
