The "end" of Shadowman

Post by Elveen »

So I finished off VH1 Shadowman last night...... I thought it was good up until the end. But a few thoughts and a question.

1) They should have brought Darque back...... that was a serious mistake (IMO) ..... Darque needed to be there at the "end" of Jack.

2) The way that B. Hall drew Jack at the end was very different, I am talkng about the style...... I usually favor the more "real" looking art (like early Valiant) but I did like ths style.

3) was the end of Seinfield at the same time as #42???????

now the question.......

what do you guys think happened to Jack? Did he survive the jump?

I think he did. Jack dies in 1999, so he had to have survived the jump.

Bob Hall's art on Shadowman was always a bit more "scattered" or "loose" than the original Valiant House Style. But, I think that perfectly fit the nature of that series. Shadowman himself was a bit more scattered and loose than any of the other characters, so the art style fit.

If I am correct, Bob did have plans for what would happen next and had a plan for exactly how Jack would die to save the world from the Darque power - should he get the chance to tell those stories.

I really hope Dino gives him that chance! Even if it is outside of the new Valiant continuity. I've been waiting a long time for Shadowman #44. Shadowman is the one title that I thought was better Post-Unity than Pre-Unity and that is all because of Bob Hall.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Shadowman was one of the few books that maintained a solid, consistent vision from Unity onwards. Bob Hall's take on the character was perfect, in my opinion.

Of course, I'm a bit of a zealot, eh? ;)

You're talking to a man who has a tattoo of Shadowman's symbol. :)

Bob Hall told me that he left Jack falling from the building in case Acclaim wanted to continue the book without him at sometime....

Sales numbers were so low thought it was time to end it....and he said it was HIS choice...

Remember Garth's first 4 issues of Shadowman were going to be VH-1... :hm:

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

It's definitely not the coolest tattoo in the world. It's not even a great tattoo job. And it's about 10 years old now. I got it while visiting my sister when she lived in Biloxi. Although I had wanted this tattoo for a while, I didn't know it was going to happen while I was there so I was unprepared. A couple doors down from the tattoo shop was a comic shop. The only Shadowman back issue they had was #30. So I grabbed that and took it back to the tattoo shop. He enlarged the symbol from the cover logo with a photocopier and that's what we went with.

In hindsight, I wish I had been more prepared. Don't get me wrong, I have no regrets at all. It's still my only tattoo and I still love it after all these years. I just wish the light rays were going out to the sides at the bottom like the old version of the symbol instead of being more squared off like the later version.

I'm not a violent person, but if I ever meet Garth Ennis, I'm going to punch him square in the face. And as he looks up at me from the floor wiping the blood from his busted lip/broken nose I'm going to proclaim, "That's for Jack Boniface, bee-yatch!"

So I was thinking about the first SDCC poker game and was just looking at the pics of MOTA. So, of course, this popped into my mind.

So what happened to Jack?
