I used to collect baseball cards when I was younger... I'd save a LOT of money to buy some nice cards. Some of my favorites that I don' think I've looked at in years are my Billy Williams Rookie card and my last season Mantle. I also used to be a big Mike Schmidt fan and was putting together a set of everyone of his cards for years... I never did land that Topps Schmidt Rookie that I wanted, but I have most of the others from all of the sets.

The 89 Upperdeck set is still oen of the nicest looking sets ever made, IMO. That and the first year of Topps Stadium Club were amazing. I think my favorite set though is the 87 Topps set with that awesome woodgrain border. I remember buying packs of those and that's one of the only complete sets I bought and opened just because I liked the cards so much. Donruss used to make some nice looking sets too...

I used to collect and play MTG . . . what a great game . .it was like crack . .

I've still got my 2 best decks together . . I sold off a lot of my other rares and singles and I don't get any new ones . . so I didn't vote . . . :)

I'm still impressed that Upper Deck made an 18 year old named Ken Griffey, Jr. the #1 card in their first set.
That was some amazing "foreshadowing" right there.

Sure, his daddy was a ballplayer, but that's not all that unique.
They could have picked Bill Ripken.

:P

"one of the best" and "not expensive now" are awesome reasons to be buying. :thumb:

is it though? As a kid I remember it really hard to find any 89 UD cards, the 1990 cards were more plentiful, thats when they "made it big"....this was just my observation as a kid though, is it different now?

My thought exactly. I've got the factory sealed 89 Udeck set, but believe it or not, that Griffey card is one of the first I pulled out of a pack back in '89. I've still got it too. :thumb:

Kinda OT, but is there any interest (here or at large) in a Michael Jordan UDA Signed 8x10 in the folder (not framed)?

What kind of prices do these draw?

theres 133 listed on ebay right now
i think the perception was that the run was low because every one else was printing so much in 1989 where as ud was smaller but kept releasing them through the year ane wax is still avalible at reasonable prices
under 100 all the time

from dave and adams card world
1989 Upper Deck Low # Baseball Wax Box
The product that started the premium card market! 1989 Upper Deck Baseball was recently voted the #1 set product in the last 20 years by Krause Publications, the publisher of SCD and Tuff Stuff. ... [ View item for more details. ]
$109.00 ADD TO ORDERMORE DETAILS

a new box of a lot of product is that price or more
it is a key set for many reasons but in no way rare just scarcer then the others at the time
a set is 60-80
a box 109
after 20 years thats a good deal but not rare
the big thing is what it did to the hobby in improving the quality and look of cards and was the first set by ud (1 of only 2 companies left in baseball today as well as ken jrs rookie

What image is it? Amazon.com seems to think a lot of theirs.

This is the image but it's not framed, it's just in the UDA's leather folder thingie. All paperwork and box included. I'll have to dig it out, but I think it's like #7 of 2500.

I used to collect sportscards up until my early twenties. I still have a bunch of them in boxes and I have a friend though that still collects them and whenever he gets a Cowboy card, he gives them to me.

I had two of those rc's but I sold them back in the mid-90's for $60 bucks apiece because I needed the money. I wish I had kept them though. :|
