An Apology
Some of you here remember me well. Some of you have a vague recollection. And some of you I've yet to meet and get to know.
I've written about it in the past (although I can't seem to locate the post, as the board grew and Greg added more categories, I wrote a post called "a sign of the times" how instead of being just a fan site, the board became a group of friends, a Valiant family) but the members of this board here have impressed me so much.
Before my Uncle's funeral ( viewtopic.php?t=17436 ) my grandmother was saying "he had a lot of friends" and having read the posts on newsarama (and I found out later, my father had as well) led my me to say to myself "and he had plenty of enemies."
I am not surprised that my uncle's passing was mentioned. But everyone is responding with such respect and the outpour of support for my family is just so moving- it is beyond what I expected. I don't want to call anyone out by name because everyone who has said anything has said the right thing. I do need to thank Greg for posting my Valiant story, and this is where the apology comes in.
I never revealed my story in the past and I was elusive as to why I had so personal a relationship with "Mr. Massarsky." I even asked greg to post my story instead of posting it myself. You see, you all worked for your collection. Whether by working for the company or by visiting your comic shop or by owning a comic shop, accruing your collection was an effort. I didn't pay for my comics, I didn't have to travel to get them... my copy of Magnus #1 has an outline of Leeja's boot drawn in blue ink, and I don't even know if I was the one who drew it!
I was embarrassed that most of my collection came so easy.
And so I apologize for the deception. And I thank everyone for being so welcoming and so warm.
That new avatar you see is a change from the Ninjak one of the past. That's a 1953 picture of my uncle and my mother.
I'll be here, and I've already seen some posts I plan to comment on (Fred Bender was never a great character... Axe on the other hand was a much better character, your standard 20th century Mekman) (I don't believe newsarama should be banned, like all things in life, the chaff needs to be thrown to the wind so the kernels can be eaten- take what is good but don't disregard it completely because it has some bad) but I won't be able to post ZWH length posts so frequently until things settle down a bit at home.
It's good to be back, I'm sorry I ever left.

S'ok. I don't make ZWH length posts anymore either.DJSpecter wrote:but I won't be able to post ZWH length posts so frequently until things settle down a bit at home.
And please don't feel bad. You didn't deceive anyone, at least not publicly. There's a difference between being honest, and being transparent. You can be the first, without ever having to be the second.
Best wishes to your family. Steve Massarsky made a tremendous impact in the industry, and everyone knows you can't make an impact without making waves as well. But none of us would be here, in this place, right now, if it weren't for him. God bless, and Hazak Ve'ematz.

and please, please...
if what i said at newsarama to the disrespectful people there offended either you or anyone else in your family, let me know.
my intention there was to comment on the lack of class being exhibited, and i never (and hope i didn't) meant to add to the troubles.
sincerely, i'm sorry for any undue stress i might've inadvertently contributed to an already painful situation.
having recently lost my grandfather i can totally see where you're coming from...death often brings an entirely new perspective on a person's life.
so again...you have my deepest sympathies and my most heartfelt apologies.
i'm always available via email or PM's.
