Interesting CGC results
I just called in for my recent CGC results. I'm usually really picky at what I send in, but I had an ok copy of a Harbinger 4 blank coupon error. It recieved a qualified 8.5. I specifically asked why it was qualified and they stated it is because of the blank coupon. So, if you've got one of these, you will recieve a green label.
In case you're curious, the other Valiants from the submission are:
Chaos Effect Omega Gold 9.8
Shadowman 0 Gold 9.8
Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Embossed 9.8
Harbinger 1 2 copies both 9.4

So the Harbinger #4 was in perfect condition other then a blank coupon and they gave you an 8.5? Or was the blank coupon just a note as to why you got the glod? Confused
ps. You should sell those cgc'ed copies to me for cheap!

Nicely slabbed on the EW gold and Chaos gold's
(dear god,
please let nicely slab catch on)
There was a blank coupon Harbinger #6 on ebay a while back, it also had the qualified label but got a 9.2 (i think). It didn't get any bidders and if I remember right the minimum bid was like $50. I think CGC considers the grade should be the condition of the book regardless of the coupon being blank and then adds the label to show its blank.

Nah, I though it would be a 9.0. It's an average copy that I wouldn't have subbed if it wasnt' the blank coupon version. My point was just that a blank coupon will get you the GLOD even though it's considered somewhat desirable. Kinda like a VVSS.
I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with the other books yet. I'll probably drop Rot an email...
It looks as if CGC has updated their census finally. I haven't gone through it all, but there are a few 9.9's added to the list that I hadn't seen before, but I haven't spotted any 10.0 yet (again, I haven't gone through the list completely)

most of you probably already know about it,
but I've been compiling the CGC census "privately"
for about a year and providing numbers to Overstreet, etc.
http://www.GregHolland.com/CGC
I'm not on the CGC payroll or anything, I just like running the numbers.
It looks like we had a TON of some Valiant books graded recently.
It also appears that the people submitting the most books are using
the pre-screening service and specifying 9.6 as the minimum grade.
I wonder if that means they're selling their "rejected" books on Ebay.
They could still be NM (since they might be 9.4), but you probably
won't be finding any pristine copies in those auctions... wherever they are.

Tom Kalb always says this in all his auctions.greg wrote:... wherever they are.
As far as NM on Ebay, I agree. There have been a few sellers that have sold CGC books and then lots of 10. I bet they used the sceening service and are selling the extras.

I'll be interested to see if he has large quantities of these books now,
or if he's only part of the "surge" in recent graded Valiants.

I've refrain from buying from jhcomics specifically because other board members have mention getting some pretty low "NM" quality bulk books from him. So I'm sure that he pre-screens and sells his left-overs to the Valiant hoard. Otherwise, out of 10 books, you would think 1 or 2 would be a keeper. After 2-3 board members having frowned at different lots, I tend to smell something fishy.
More power to his cgc books though. Has he sold any recently?

I tries one lot and would not try again. Some might think they were Nm but I would rate them 9.0 to 9.2 at best.whetteon wrote:I've refrain from buying from jhcomics specifically because other board members have mention getting some pretty low "NM" quality bulk books from him. Spine and edge wear. As if they were in a box unbagged. There was also color transfer from other books on the front & back.depluto wrote:What kind of flaws did they have that made you grade them at 9.0?

This is absolutely ridiculous. Someone over at CGC needs to pull their head out of their *SQUEE*.Brett wrote:I just called in for my recent CGC results. What a joke.
I could go into LENGTHY detail about WHY this is a joke, but you all reading this probably already know why, and it'd just get me riled up.
Stupid CGC.
Time for a 'downsizing'.

Same here....he advertised 'NM/M' copies, and quite a few came crunched at the top and bottom of the spines. I wrote him about it and his response was 'well, these are just store overstock, so I don't know what you expected.....'x-omatic wrote:Spine and edge wear. As if they were in a box unbagged. I wrote back saying 'well, then, advertise them as VF/NM, and weed people (read: anal graders) like me out of the process.' But, of course, that would affect the bottom line, so we can't do that, can we?
THAT said, he did give me a very generous partial refund.
Come on guys....if you're reading this, NM/M MEANS NM/M....not 'store overstock that someone got around to bagging and boarding 5 years after release and are in decent shape, but are about 6 points off or more from being 'NM/M'.
Ya know?
