X-O #0 Ivory? (the saga continues...)

Post by greg »

As a follow-up to these topics...
http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17808
http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18021

... I decided to go ahead and check my copies of X-O #0.

It's true, some copies of X-O #0 are certainly more "ivory" than "white"...
In fact, I've got three of them. (So, no, the slabbed copy isn't one-of-a-kind.)

They're clearly an "off-white"... here's two of the copies I found,
mingled with "normal" for comparison.
Image

While I would be tempted to believe that there could be a whole "rainbow"
of colors between "bright white" and "off-white"... I should point out the spines.

Only the three copies which were "ivory" also had a white spine.
The edge where the fold occurs is "white" while normal copies are black.

Image

So, as expected, a book with 800,000 copies has some copies that look
different than other copies... I'm not sure what causes the difference,
but when I saw the spines, it seems clear that something is different about these.

:hm:

Huh.

I always thought that my copy seemed weird because the box looks yellowish (or ivory as you say), and yeah, the fold looks white (or more like silverly, though not to the same extent as your two copies. In mine the white/silvery part only appears between the staplers).

Blame it on the magenta plate.

Curious to see what other people's stacks look like. Mine all seem normal.

Don't go getting into to much of an uproar here. All my copies except one look like the "ivory" ones. However, instead of thinking that this was just a variant, I assumed that it was just a combination of bad storage and smoking. It looks like nicotine stains to me, kinda like my walls. And, if you all remember right, back when this issue came out, it was still "ok (re: not illegal)" to smoke in a comic shop (at least we did).
If any of you KNOW that your copies were never exposed to smoke, you should say so. That way we can do a little elimination here.

Could this be a production change?

Like the Magnus coupon/card inserts?

Maybe it was a regoinal thing? :hm:

Maybe the printed "x" number of books and got higher pre-orders and printed additional copies before the book was released.

Wow. Just wow.

Before, imagesowner2 was just a nuisance bidder from outside the family with deep pockets.

Now. That's just slimy.

Then again - it is immoral to let a fool keep his money.

S'all good.

Leave it to good ol' Imagesowner to throw up that book in response....;)

He's still a nuisance bidder with deep pockets. But he is a member.

I can't believe that there is this much discussion over an obvious printing error that is apparently a common occurrence. If more than three board members have these books spine or no spine, I hardly think that it should be treated as some rarity. The book was MASS produced, there are bound to be differences. Are we to the point where we are going to count mis-prints as a desired collectible ? This is merely nitpicking our collections in search or (if not creating) speculation over the color of a label on a comic. When you produce SO MANY of a book, there are bound to be differences. Whats next ? An off centered Bloodshot #1 ?
