Spider-Man/X-Men/Marvel Masterpieces 2009 sets anyone ?

Post by Knightt »

Anybody picked up the new Spider-man and X-Men archieves sets or even the 2009 Marvel Masterpieces card sets, I am trying to play catch up here and Ebay is frustrating me at the moment. I am looking for extra common sets and chase cards.

Anybody out there want to wheel and deal ?

They are making comic-cards again?

Man, the '90s really are repeating themselves, aren't they?

I probably more interested in teh cards now than ever as the sets are few and they dont have the same BS hype attatched to them.

Hopefully all the chase set nonsense isnt the same, but i wont hold my breath.

The BS and stupid prices are now attached within the first few months, then things die down. Now the damn sketch cards are what go for real money, but then again you get 1-2 per box, so your chances of getting someone 'popular' are slim but not nigh impossible. There ARE a lot of crap sketch cards out there as well though. But, me ? I really could care less, as long as I can get 'one' sketch card that is not too bad. You will probably get two sets of 'chase cards' (heroes/villians etc). Now the CRAZY thing is that Marvel is coming out with a two card, three tier card set... like the first set:

Iron Man tier 1
Hulk tier 1

Easy to get, probably get at least one in the box

Iron Man tier 2
Hulk tier 2

VERY lucky to get in the box, but expensive to 'buy' on Ebay but you might get lucky with a decent price

Iron Man tier 3
Hulk 3

I've never even seen either of these two cards, not on Ebay, in a shop or even pics of what they look like, i.e. good luck finding one and if you do find it on Ebay, you are gonna pull triple digits at a minimum.

They are also putting costume 'swatches of cloth' from the different superhero movies that abound these days. Those can be gotten pretty easily but some knucklebuckets has split the swatches into 'different colors', 'different types of cloth', 'cloth with a seam, without a seam, with a seam but two different colors' yadda yadda yadda

There also might be artists/creator cards, i.e Stan Lee, or John Romita Sr that have their autograph on them.

And it seems like EVERY card set has a common set of cards and then either a parallel holofoil set, or a gold stamp set or BOTH... and THAT can run you $30 on a GOOD day but you get one per pack, so you get 36 foil cards but stand the chance of getting doubles and triples of those cards, so ending up with any of the parallel sets is a pain and if it is a sub/sub parallel set, then go back to triple digits.

THEN there are the box toppers and the case toppers. I.e. One card out of 9 for the box toppers, so search for the remaining 8 (usually the last 3 out of the 9 are limited in production i.e. cost more) and then a card that goes in one case of cards, if a case has 26 boxes, boxes sell for $50 each, well then sometimes they can cost 26 X $50 to get, or $100-$400 for one card, out of perhaps 4 different types (i.e. Iron Man costume pieces of armor or Bob Layton Sketch cards)

LOTS of money to collect these folks, but then again, but a common set, then wait for the chase cards to go down.... wait, wait and then the rest will go down, or until the next 'hot' set comes out.
