Comics 2 Film reports Ice Cube has joined New Line and Takoma Entertainment Group for the movie Shadowman, based on the voodoo/mystical dude comic book. "We're really excited about doing Shadowman with Ice Cube, especially given the reception Next Friday got," Dave Elliot, VP of Development at Takoma Entertainment Group told Comics 2 Film. Elliot expects the latest draft of the Shadowman screenplay to be turned in soon. The production team has been cleared by New Line to begin looking for a director. |
Obviously the movie never got made. How come it was never made? Was it due to Acclaim's financial problems? Did they even start shooting? I googled and could not find much information.

Somehow I just can't picture Ice Cube in the role of Shadowman. |

So you don't think Ice Cube looks like Jack Boniface?

Wow! I thought it was the real shadowman for a minute!
I'm kidding, of course. They probably ran into problems when the script had to continuously be rewritten to rack up a bigger body count for cops. Actually, the movie was likely still made, just named something else.
Ghosts of Mars came out around that time. Maybe that was their "adaption"? |

This film would have been as good as... if not better than... Steel with Shaq... |

Really? Ice Cube developed the Shadowman comics??? |
He obviously modeled the character after himself.

Just a short follow-up on something else I found on this topic from newsarama.

Producer Barry Levine: Yeah, pretty much. It was quite an education working on the set. The second picture I sold to New Line and Mike DeLucca was also a comic book. Shadowman from Acclaim. That was my real first comic book adaptation.
Newsarama: What happened to it?
Producer Barry Levine: A script was written but New Line just couldn't make the deal with Acclaim. Eventually it ended up over at Dimension. After so many years of development, we ended up with a great script but no studio. After the Weinsteins left, the project has just sat there. |

I think it could be good if it's the v3 Shadowman, but Ice Cube was the wrong guy for the role. |

Mike LeRoi and the Deadside premise were great. If done right, I think it would translate well into a movie. |
