Specific Waves or Pieces From Toy Lines we Love

Post by IMJ »

We’ve got some neat hot comic lists going here on the forums, so I thought I’d compliment those with a sort of toy list of some of the better micro-sets that can be built from various toy lines. It’ll be cool to add to this over time, and I’m eager to hear some of your thoughts…..

Most of the stuff here will be vintage, but the idea behind these lists are to isolate cooler mini-collections, or definitive micro-sets. Of course, MOC is great and all but a neat collection is a nice display of loose complete toys, IMO.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1988)
1988 Wave One Soft Heads | Complete w. all accessories
Leonardo
Donatello
Michaelangelo
Raphael
Shredder
Rocksteady
Bebop

The Adventures of Indiana Jones (1982)
Really, the whole set is desirable and small enough to collect
Indiana Jones
Marion
Toht
Cairo Swordsman
Belloq (archaeological dig)
Belloq (ceremonial dress)
German Mechanic
Indiana Jones in German Disguise
Monkey Man
Sallah
Indiana Jones in Arabian Disguise
Arabian Horse

Temple of Doom Wave (2008)
Although it’s a recent release, these had very small distribution and are great toys
Indiana Jones
Shortround
Willie Scott
Mola Ram
Thuggee Guard
Giant Thuggee

G.I. Joe (1982)
Wave 1 Set | Complete w. all Acessories
Breaker
Cobra
Cobra Officer
Flash
Grunt
Rock N Roll
Scarlett
Short-Fuze
Snake Eyes
Stalker
Zap

Star Wars (1977)
Original Releases, all complete would make for a neat, vintage and finite collection
R2D2
Chewbacca
Luke Skywalker
Princess Leia Organa
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Darth Vader
Han Solo (small head)
C-3PO
Stormtrooper
Imperial Commander
Jawa
Tusken Raider

The Real Ghostbusters (1986)
Full set of the four ghostbusters including proton packs with streams and four ghosts
Ray Stantz
Winston Zedmore
Egon Spengler
Peter Venkman

Secret Wars (1984)
Constrictor
Electro

Iron Man: The Animated Series
Good luck with these. Only the US Agent was produced in the Iron Man line, but even he is super scarce. The others were made in limited quantities and pop up as sets on eBay for as little as $1200.00
US Agent
Living Laser
Dark Aegis
Magnetic Armor Iron Man
Armor Car w. Tony Stark Prototype
Radiation Armor Iron Man
Lava Armor Iron Man

I know that there’s harder to find figures than some of what I’ve listed. Those are welcome here too, but this thread isn’t only about the rarest toys in any line, but also about the coolest micro-sets or collections.

My favorite toys ever are:

#1) No doubt it is Danguard Ace GA-79. My parents got this for me one night when they were out in Chinatown. I think they paid $100 for it new off the shelf. (I was probably in 2 or 3rd grade). This is the coolest toy ever. They sell for $400+ on ebay.

#2) O.G. Star Wars figs from Kenner. I can still remember getting my first 2 figs., Obi Wan and a Stormtrooper. I put them in the plastic bubble shell from the card and flew them around the Apt complex. I will never forget that.

#4) The Big Shogun Warriors (like 2 feet tall). They would shoot their fists and it was so cool. I never had the Godzilla, but I wanted that one sooooooo bad. I would say there have been at least 10 times on ebay that I have almost bought one.

#4) Battlestar Galactica ships that came with the the super mini figs. The little figs were so cool.

Of course the BEST toy (besides the Danguard Ace) were/are Legos, but not sure that counts for this thread.

True, true, but what's the definitive micro-collection from the line? Is it an Avengers team, or all of the Iron Men, or just a nicely displayed Wave 1?

That's the spirit of this thread!

Yeah... that or a nice set of all of the Legends X-Men from the Toy Biz era along with that Sentinel would be a cool micro collection too!

NNnniiiceee...
That would be a cool micro set..
It's finite enough that you could do some neat stuff with it too. Have two of each, one as a dino and one next to it as a robot. There's only what? 8, maybe?

Did you sell or parents throw out/yard sale?

I'd love to start collecting them but they really tough to even find on ebay and when I have seen a complete T-rex, it may have been over $400 :o

I sold them.

When I was a kid, I was terrible about following trends, paying retail and selling cheap when I was done with them.

Yup. I've been resisting the urge to compile these for some time now. Cool micro collection from Mego? Everything Batman... including the Mego Pocket stuff.

:thumb: All spot on. I have a friend whos got these, Swoop is pretty fragile.

The next dinobot was this hideous thing:

Grimlock as a Pretender, rubbish! They were human shells (crap 2 piece front and back) with a much smaller transformer inside, as shown on right.

I have a micro focus—just the Batman stuff...for now. I have all the standard 8” figures, the Batmobile, the 12” Batman, the Duo with the magnetic hands and feet, and the straight legged pocket Duo with Batmobile. I have a ways to go before have all the Batstuff, but what I have looks great in my display case.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... C08212.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... C08212.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... C08368.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... C08368.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... C08217.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... C08217.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Not MEGO but still cool--l have the Captain Action Batman and Robin sets:

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... 8257-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... 8257-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Eventually, I would like to have all the MEGO WGSH figures starting with the remaining DCU figures.

The Star Trek 8” figures are great too, but I still have a few more to add for the set.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... t=trek.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn14 ... n/trek.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The ones pictured are all originals but I also have the reissue Romulan and Mugoto as place holders for now. Also not pictured are the new Gorn, Kahn, Checkov and Sulu that came out a year ago. I'll take an updated picture when I can.

Thanks :)

Most of my BatMEGOS are T1 except for Batman. I like the T2 Batman proportions when displayed with the T1 Robin. When I eventually get a T1 Batman its going to be the removable cowl version.

All of my Star Trek figures are T2 except for the carded McCoy.
