Tell Me What To Read
I've been reading a lot of mini series recently and I'm ready to take on a lengthy series. This time around, I'm interested in reading something exclusively Marvel (on the X side of the Universe). Your opinion is welcome!
In case you're not familiar with the concepts, here's a quick breakdown:
Excalibur - X team in Europe
Exiles - alternate reality-hopping X team
Generation X - a class of teen mutants learning how to use their powers
X-Factor - the original five X-Men reunited ... then a new direction set by Peter David
X-Man - the adventures of a young Nathan Summers (aka Cable; from the Age of Apocalypse reality) in the mainstream Marvel Universe

It doesn't seem to matter who is on X-Factor - I seem to like that team lineup better than X-Men or X-Force or whomever else is running around at the time.Doorman wrote:I'm assuming you mean the current X-Factor team? Of all the X-Factor eras, the original lineup is the one I like the least. I even liked that lineup with Mystique, Sabretooth, Forge, Wild Child and a hologram of Bishop's sister.

I'm really intrigued to read that lineup! Such a wacky mix - so weird that it was even cleared considering there's barely even a "big-name" character to score some attention. (Although, I suppose - at the time - Sabretooth was the "name")Chiclo wrote:Of all the X-Factor eras, the original lineup is the one I like the least. What bugs me about Peter David's orginal run in X-Factor (#71-#89 Annual #7 and Annual #8) is the fact that he leaves the series without finishing his storyline and he was setting up so really great stuff like Polaris' low self-esteem, Havoc wanting and trying to get out of Scott's shadow, Wolfbane having to return to Genosha because she is losing control of her powers, Madrox starting to question the nature of his dupes and testing the limit of his powers, Quicksilver and Crystal's failing relationship, Strong Guy dealing with the repercussions of his involvement in a fight that destroyed the Washington Monument, and Val Cooper having to deal with all of them.
While I understand his reasons for leaving the book when he did (IIRC the reason he left the series was because he didn't like having to deal with all of the crossovers being sprung on him at the last minute) it's a case of what might have been.
Now I would love to see Havoc and Polaris rejoin the current team in the current series, and see how Madrox, M, Rictor, Shatterstar, Longshot, Wolfbane, Layla Miller, Strong Guy, and Banshee II would interact and deal with them, hell throw Quicksilver back into the group and turn Peter David lose to see what kind of stories he would deliver. That would be a wild ride.

X-Factor was just a really average book when i look back over the entire run.
The early issue showed promise, but failed to deliver past the first couple of years.
Excaliber was crap for 100 of the 125 issues.
Exiles is by far the most complete read amongst this list, if you ignore the last few arcs by Claremont
