News (?) about Acclaim auction...
From Lying in the Gutters:
John Taddeo was spotted at the auction for Acclaim's hard assets when they went under.
Previously LITG stated that Taddeo was interested in buying up Valiant properties. Looks like he's sniffing around.
Reportedly a sad affair. Lots of desks for sale with mugs and photos still on them, as if they hadn't had time to take them when the hammer fell. Still, if you wanted a movie studio, game testing area or a conference room going cheap, they couldn't be beat.
But as for film and contracts for the comics, they seemed to be in short supply. Turns out the building holding all those assets had already been sold, as was, without realizing those assets were in there. Anyone trying to put the old material together will have a long arduous journey.

That right there shows how much anyone at Acclaim cared about comics.Ryan wrote: Turns out the building holding all those assets had already been sold, as was, without realizing those assets were in there.

I'm confused about the wording of that news item.
The rights to the characters wouldn't be something "in a building".
Valiant characters are "intellectual property"... and can't be conferred
by accident like finding an old box in the attic.
While there might have been actual contracts related to the "Shadowman movie"
or similar "in progress" possibilities... those would essentially be void now.
As far as I know, the rights to the Valiant and Acclaim characters have not yet been sold...
and I believe that we will hear something official from the new owner when they are.

If I'm not mistaken, the Acclaim auction in question was for physical assets.bamaphilosopher wrote:Perhaps the paperwork was in a building somewhere. Their intellectual property rights must have some sort of paperwork attached, right? Regardless, it seems that Mr. Taddeo was not able to bid for the characters, since he would have let us know, I think, if he had gotten them.
(Buildings, furniture, vehicles, etc.)
Intellectual properties (mainly video game lines) have been sold separately
before this auction, and I presume they are still being "sold separately" today.
It is up to the bankrupcy trustee to dispose of all the assets as he sees fit.
It sounds like he is "taking offers" on some assets (intellectual property),
while the on-site auction was an immediate liquidation of physical assets.
