Yeah I can't say I love Twitter either. It does work well for following sports reporters as you mentioned. I follow a few for the Cubs and get some pretty good inside info and rumors, which is fun. Also following Valiant, Dinesh and Warren has been fun for following what is going on with the new launch (not everything gets posted on VFans or FB). I dropped a lot of celebs because they tweet all damn day. I think I follow, 5-6 celebs right now (5 of them hotties for various reasons ) and they aren't tweeting all day! I am following less than 30 people, some friends, a few board members, and frankly I don't know how people follow more than that. It's impossible to keep up!BugsySig wrote:Honestly I hate twitter. I really only follow it for news and to stay informed at the speed of thought, like with the NFL Draft last night for instance. One of the reporters was tweeting picks like 20 minutes before they were shown on TV. I only follow reporters and the occasional company like VEI, and a few select people in entertainment who don't constantly tweet.
That being said, I was crazy enjoying last nights little twit-war. Espescially the fact that several hundred people were sticking up for Valiant, which recieved several thousand mentions (a good thing on twitter which is counted to see who is "trending" world-wide).
It just goes to prove one of the points I make with my Sociology classes about how we are moving to become a world community; regaining our intimate relationships with those outside our close family and friends for the first time since the Industrial Revolution.
It also drives me frakkin crazy because none of my students can wait 30 seconds for something anymore.
Last night's Rob Liefeld war was a laugh riot though. That was also the first time I typed in a name (Rob's) into search as well as Valiant's and could see the "world's" tweets regarding both subjects which I found kind of neat.

Re: Is Rob Liefeld calling BS on the Valiant sales numbers?
I don't really get all the Liefield hate.
I went back and read some New Mutants and Youngblood from back in the day, and they were good. They might not have had an amazing story, but they were exciting. When Liefield was at the height of his game, there was almost nobody else making comics as exciting as his. The only folks that could probably be on par were Todd McFarlane and Jim Lee. Their work made comics really, really exciting.
In general, what comic readers have evolved to expect from their comics has changed in the last 20 years, and Liefield hasn't updated his style much to evolve with the times. You can't deny that he was a powerhouse, and made some of the most fun, exciting stuff coming out at the time.
Live and let live.

I believe the art on the right is an attempt to show what's "underneath" the art on the left. The left is real Liefeld.caniac wrote:OMG !?!greg wrote:myron wrote:anyone got that ridiculous capt america or the rotating capt america to insert in this thread?

Re: Is Rob Liefeld calling BS on the Valiant sales numbers?
I tend to agree - and much of the backlash against him may not be warranted. I bought those comics - and liked them. I was bitter, not over the art - but that I had to buy so many copies of everything to make my collection complete. I bought X-Force for a year after he left, when I started dropping everything.Dr. Solar wrote:I don't really get all the Liefield hate.

That said, I bought one copy of the first Youngblood. Read it, and thought, "What the *SQUEE* was that piece of *SQUEE*?" Not at all a writer. Soured me on most of Image. For good.
The art, though, I usually liked. When it was Deadpool, Cable, and the like. Not 'Big Brother! Shaft Dutch Cougar-Troll. (Intentional mis-use of punctuation to make a point, yes)
Although, after seeing the Captain America above...

One tweet and I think I'm done with it.
I hate Liefeld the artist, but from what I have to go on, Liefeld the person is a great guy and I have nothing against him.

Re: Is Rob Liefeld calling BS on the Valiant sales numbers?
I agree. I do think without Marvel editorial guidance, though, he had no idea what he was doing for some time from a creative and writing perspective. And I have always said his original New Mutants/X-Force art is actually very good. I just got tired of all the issues at Image and went away from his stuff until the recent relaunch. And while I thought the new Extreme books were good, only Bloodstrike really made me think about buying a second issue.Jay Tomio wrote:While I'm separating his accomplishments from this particular circumstance, I completely agree, and let's also throw in that he is the co-creator of the two of the most popular/successful MARVEL characters created post the damn cold war. Characters who still get mad run at MARVEL, and whose IP (one of them) is a goldmine with more (likely) to come.Dr. Solar wrote:I don't really get all the Liefield hate.

Re: Is Rob Liefeld calling BS on the Valiant sales numbers?
The Liefeld hate is just herd behavior. Nothing more. In addition to echoing what Doc Solar, Jay and Kevin have said, I have to speak of the man behind the work. I've said it before, but Rob is by far the most gracious, kindest and all around coolest comic book professional I have ever met. At Heroescon a couple of years ago he had a line a mile long and still took time to chat, sign as many books as people had (and some rude people had a lot), and did free sketches for whoever asked. Not just a head nod, or a thanks, but a conversation with whoever wanted it. I got a commission from Marat Mychaels and sat with him and Rob while it was being done and had a great conversation with them both about the haters. Rob said something along the line of "I liked Watchmen...I liked Doom Patrol...I get it that my stuff isn't like that. Not trying to be. My stuff is fun. Action, explosions, fun. No hidden meaning, no deconstruction, just a fun story with fun art."
And the art on X-Force and New Mutants was and still is tremendous. If you were around then you know full well that it was like nothing you'd ever seen before. You loved it, and bought it. Do not even front.

Re: Is Rob Liefeld calling BS on the Valiant sales numbers?
The only experience with Liefeld I've had is at conventions. On two (maybe three) occasions, I've stood next to Elveen on his quest to get sketches for CF auctions. Rob was very friendly and personable, fun to talk to and seemingly very willing to do a sketch. We'd check back now and then and he still hadn't done it, but promised he would. At the end of the con he still hadn't done it, but asked for an address to send the sketch to. Can you guess what never showed up?Tim wrote:I've said it before, but Rob is by far the most gracious, kindest and all around coolest comic book professional I have ever met.
The point is that more than one artist has declined to do a sketch. Hell, they're being asked to do something for free when there is a line of paying customers right behind Elveen. The difference is that some artists have the decency to say they aren't interested in helping. I can't say the same for Rob. The opinion I am left with is that the guy is a d!ck with an inflated sense of self worth. This petty twitter bs doesn't surprise me in the least.

Same here. If I'm driving my son to one of his friend's houses, they're texting back and forth about how many more minutes it is until they get there. Between that and Facebook, I don't know how they stand it; they're in each other's sh!t All. Day. Long. There's no respite from the peer pressure and cliques and teen drama. I try to rein it in as much as possible but it's a losing battle.BugsySig wrote:It also drives me frakkin crazy because none of my students can wait 30 seconds for something anymore.
