I like the color art in that picture - I think it really "pops". The colorist also added details that really enhanced the drawing like the armor reflections. That picture was relatively early in the issue and I don't think anyone had a problem with it - I think the drop off in quality at the end of the issue is what most people noticed. The lack of detail in the combat scenes that I don't think the colorist has much fault in. The coloring probably could have been better .. but the lack of detail is what stands out.

But to each his own ... I know I liked Mico Suayan's original pages for Harbinger #0 more .. before they got "muddied" by the colorist.

I literally teared up when I got these. This is my first big comic art purchase.

These first six pages are amazing. IMO, the best art I've seen from Valiant. But then again, I'm a big Cary Nord fan and a lover of art nouveau (with it's intensely detailed, organic decorative paneling). Alphonse Mucha is one of my all time favorite artists.

The opportunity support Cary and pick up some amazing Valiant/XO origin pages was too good to refuse!

More detail shots for you guys. No question, Cary is brilliant. This is his first issue that he's inked himself. We can expect nothing but good things from him.

About the same as buying 12 Harbinger Lemire 1:100 variants. :o

But like I said, it's my first purchase of this kind, and not something Ill do frequently (I hope).

I felt like it was a really special moment in Valiant history, XO is my favorite single Valiant character, I love Cary's work, these are his first inks ever, and they're in my beloved art nouveau style... Soooooo price really wasn't a factor. I just had to buy em.

I think $200 or $300 per page is totally worth it, especially those pages.

Thanks for asking JMatt, I was totally thinking the same thing.

I'd say you have chosen... Wisely... for your first original comic art purchase. Awesome score, sir!

Thank you! I still need to get them framed. I do love them and I'm happy that I bought them.

Wow, people are still talking about this issue after its been out for half a year now? That's incredible! I really enjoyed this issue and felt the writing was amazing, the priest really started to grow in me and it was a nice into into Planet Death and helped to lay a nice foundation for the story. I like how it was told as if it was a priest giving a sermon, excellent way to tell a story and it shows that Venditti can think outside the box.

Agreed. Telling the armor's origin through a priest's sermon was a nice touch... and the origin can evolve over time because, as we know, religious stories passed down over thousands of years can be a distortion of what really happened.

The most interesting theory (I believe from this very thread) was that the lone wanderer was not really vine, but human. Ivar the time traveler to be specific. If that is true, it's safe to conclude that only humans can don the armor (Ivar, Aric, Gafte). Hmmm.

Well done Carson, they are beautiful, I reckon you have picked up some of the best artwork from the 'Planet Death' run.

The bordering on those pages blew me away also.

Very distinctive artwork pages, I'd be very proud to own those pages, lucky lucky :thumb:

Thanks, Peter! I met Cary last November and when he told me what he was working on I knew I had to have em. Can't wait to see what he does with his part of the UNITY story in XO!

I'll second, third, and fourth that assessment, great purchase Carson.

Nord always seems to be one of those continually underrated/unappreciated artists, but his art on X-O has been outstanding. Those pieces look terrific. I'd take my time choosing the right type of frame though. Art of that quality deserves to be hanging on your wall. :thumb:
