I'd be happy if there's more than just humans, but it would also make sense that the Vine consider Loam too 'sacred' to defile it with any other races except the humans (visigoths, specifically) as a shield against Aric, to punish them, and to look for Aric's weakness in his relatives.

But they've been there for 1600 years...they couldn't have known Aric would be a problem that far in the future. He was just another nameless slave on a colony ship while the Visigoths slaved away on Loam.
