My guess is that these are another type of alien that was collected by the Vine to live on Loam, and act as their slaves, just like was done with the humans.

To me, they appear to be sort of a prehistoric offshoot or progenitor of the present day Vine. Kinda like our Neanderthals or Cro-Magnon.

I thought that too...So could these be what the Vine were before they were reborn from the bodies of the Torment?

Interesting theory that they would be the proto-Vine.

I mean the Vine resemble the spider-aliens so closely physically that it'd be hard for me to accept them existing as entirely different species. I thought the Vine were just the reboot version of the spider-aliens, frankly.

it would be ironic if Aric becomes the savior for the Spider Aliens from the oppressive Vine

And then 2000 years later - the spider aliens invade earth

Not sure if anyone took a gander at the synopsis for X-O Manowar 13 on the Valiant website, but--

SPOILERS

"Aric discovers the Vine he intends to conquer aren’t the only race on planet Loam, but will these surprise inhabitants offer him refuge or rivalry? Meanwhile, the Vine leaders plan their most devastating attack yet, one that will push the X-O Manowar armor to its limits and beyond. The stakes are raised and the table set for the epic battle from which no one—human or Vine—will emerge unchanged."

So they are don't seem to b proto-Vine but another species occupying Loam alongside them? They appear to be enslaved (I assume the people watching over them with spears are Vine overlords), so maybe Aric is indeed going to be freeing the Spider Aliens.

The other race on Loam is humans... visigoths. Aric went to destroy the planet and found out his closest living relatives are there.

Huh, why is that in the preview info for issue 13 when it happened in 12? Oh, well, you are probably right.

Well, it appears that the other race referred to in the solicits are not humans as this image would show:

Yeah, VDitti said there will be another alien race on Loam that Aric encounters. Of course the solicit is vague enough that one might think its just talking about the humans, but that makes for a bigger reveal.

It only makes sense that other races would be on Loam. If the Vine are touring the universe dropping off Plantings and kidnapping slaves, human slaves can't be the only ones on Loam.
