I agree and disagree with the article. I think VEI should do something for these creators, but I also think offering them new work is a Fair offer of apprciation and compensation. Though it sucks what the creators went through, i don't think vei should have to do anything that would insinuate an obligation to the creators now or in the future. I think it's more important to keep clear lines of ownership with VEI both for the company and the sake of the characters.

Perhaps give them a free license to create limited non story based works for their own (the creators) profit, like paintings, prints, posters, bookmarks etc. that would serve to give back something to the creators that they could profit from individually, without giving them freedom to control anything VEI does.
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

At least this is a coherent article with some valid points. I agree with Aram on his points and will add this because it was the one statement that struck me:
In some way Valiant should honor those that created what they now benefit from.
So if Q&W is a hit, and VALIANT gave compensation to Priest & Bright, wouldn't they also be benefitting from someone else's work? This wasn't Disney who bought the VALIANT IPs, it was two guys who have invested time, money, entrepreneurial effort and thousands of hours of planning, working and fighting in court to return them to print. Not to mention they have rebuilt the brand name into a profitable and recognizable entity from which it may now be possible to launch/relaunch a successful IP. Why is one persons profit off another more or less important than another's?

In a bankruptcy, there is a SPECIFIC TIME when ANYONE who has any claim to ANYTHING in the bankruptcy assets has to step forward and make their claim known.
This means making it known to the bankruptcy trustees... not making it known to Acclaim.
Acclaim was dead... everything belonged to the trustees... there was a window of time to contact the trustees.

After that specified time, the window of opportunity to make a claim is CLOSED.

None of the creators made a claim to the trustees when they were completely within their right to do so... in 2004 and early 2005. None.

To attempt to make a claim now is too late. About 8 years too late.

It's like having the right to vote. Yes, if you're a registered voter, it is your RIGHT to cast your ballot.
You can't sit at home instead of voting, wait until 8 YEARS after the election is over, and then decide your right was somehow violated.

I would love to hear from Priest and Bright.

They have the only rights to claim or get interested in it. When they talk, I will listen. With a grain of salt, of course. It appears that VEI have done quite a bit to honor the old guys, too. Frankly, listening to Busiek and Maguire complain about all of this garbage is staring to make me sick.

Exactly. They had years do make claim and didn't because of time and money involved.
You snooze, you loose.

Yeah, this doesn't hold water. Dino and Jason spent all the money, did all the work and saved the IP in bankruptcy. And now people are scrambling to suckle the teat?

If they don't like it they can sue Acclaim. The whole thing is preposterous.

"It's not fair! Waaah!" This is what you get when you predicate a society based on who has the best sob story instead of law.

To be fair, Busiek did not really complain. Unfortunately his comments were based on misquotes so in context they were all wrong. I think the intent was better than how it came out.

Don't even lower yourself to that level over there. I got dragged into it and won't do it again. It's not worth arguing with people who have already made up their mind despite the preponderance of evidence.

Yeah, I'm seeing that now.

Oh well... I've put in my two cents.

(...and I heard that Kevin Maguire believes I now owe him half of that!)
