Solar #47 Color Cover
This is apparently one of the last watercolor covers as it's the original cover on left which was sent to digital coloring to be recolored. Waste of time if you ask me. Right image is a printout of the computer enhanced cover that they used. Note on the left there is no credit for "Bell"- that was the digital colorist who added his name to the finished product.
REVERSE AUCTION: I keep lowering the price until someone buys it. Opening offer is $150.00 on 7.6.13.
SOLD FOR: $150.00
Buyer to add $5.00 to go towards shipping.
Auction ends when someone buys it.

- Especially "dude." And "balls." Those terms work in the tech industry.

Next time I'll make it so expensive out of the gate that you'd be nuts to pay that much!

And then you'll be really happy when it sells just as quickly!

If you think I am doing this for the money, you don't know me.

So far, you seem like a real cool guy. Their is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a fair amount of money for these unique items you've been selling - they're awesome items that I would love to have if I could justify spending what you charge (not that your prices aren't extremely reasonable - they are incredibly affordable). Having said that, if you weren't doing it for the money (even a little - I'm not saying it's your primary motivation) then you would just offer the items free to the first person who said they wanted it, or give all of your items away in contests like you did with some of the other stuff. I'm not suggesting you should do that, but it's a little disingenuous to say you not doing it for the money when large amounts of money have been changing hands.Knob Row wrote:If you think I am doing this for the money, you don't know me.
I was really just making a joke about you being happy about it going for high amounts. But I'm sure that wouldn't make you sad.

Re: FS: Solar #47 Color Cover: Reverse Auction Style
Your comments stuck with me since I read them and feel compelled to comply. I am not using the money on myself- I am using it on other people- friends and family. I am getting nothing but satisfaction from doing it. So yeah- I want it to sell for a lot so I can give more to others.
I crossed a line when I sold my CGCs on eBay, then another when I gave out about 400 comics to various VF.com members mostly at my expense. Truth is I never really considered what I have as mine- I was only the caretaker of it.
It's been there for me when I needed it and at the moment, my son who is entering college and daughter entering high school are my priority. The Solar #47 cover is a rug for my son's room.
As far as philanthropy goes, I give a penny to the guy to Greg for allowing this, because this is a really good venue to sell good stuff- there's a lot of hardcore Valiant fans here and what I have should go to them.
I started another auction this morning and made it public- maybe that's the best way to go. The thread sustains itself and the price finds itself without me interacting.
I once asked Jim Shooter how it felt to be loved and hated by so many people. He said his philosophy is to do the right thing and do your due diligence and know that at the end of the day you did your part. That is what he said he did to get by.
