Joe Casey & Paul Maybury - Magnus & Turok for DH
I've posted in other threads about an interview with Joe Casey where he mentioned approaching Dark Horse about using characters from a universe that Dark Horse held the rights to. Dark Horse said no and instead offered him the Catalyst Comix characters. Casey never mentioned what the other universe was and I speculated that he approached DH about the Gold Key properties.
Well, I was right!
In an interview with Paul Maybury, Maybury says that he and Casey were working on Magnus and Turok but then DH pulled the plug, sounds like they didn't think their take was right for the character and DH lost the rights.
I've not read FVL take on Magnus but I would have thrilled to read Casey and Maybury's take on the characters.

Just found this concept art. I love Maybury's art and like this image a lot but not a fan of Magnus' outfit. I wish they would just go with the traditional Magnus garb. It's in part, what grabbed me when I first saw it on the shelf. He just looked like such a different kind of character.

That art is terrible, but if Joe Casey was writing it I'd buy it anyway. Joe Casey is often overlooked as one of the best Superman writers of all time, IMO.

I agree, the art's horrible and the outfit is just bad. A giant skull for a belt buckle?
That being said, Magnus was the one mini in Dark Horse's gold key line that I didn't like, so maybe it would have been an improvement.
FVL is doing a good job on the current magnus title. It still sucks that it's not part of VEI...
