Valiant/Acclaim original art (found)

Post by cmixer »

Found a guy on CraigsList with 15 year-old original art for sale.
Met in a Chic-Fil-A parking lot.
Walked away with this:

Love Turok, and love Rafael Kayanan.

This is issue1 page1 of the Acclaim series (after Valiant).

There is an acetate layover (i think they call a 'patch') to finish the piece:

How the jazz to you display something like this?
Do you frame the two pieces side-by-side, and let the viewer 'figure out' whats going on?

Nice pick up!
I enjoyed the Acclaim Turok stuff. Kayanan did a great job on the art as well.
I have a few pages of his Turok work in my CAF gallery.

Awesome piece! Congratulations! I would frame them with the overlay on top.

I would not, for two reasons. One, you don't want them to interact and get ruined after years in the frame. Two, the original will be diminished by the overlay.

I would make a high quality copy of the original and frame side by side with the overlay over the copy. At least the original is not damaged by age.

That WOULD increase framing cost by quite a bit. But it's a special piece.

After a quick check, KINKOs will make a scan & print at 600dpi ... Is that good enough? Would you suggest a different company?

Awesome CL buy. Seriously. I know how many searches and failed connections you need to get something like that.

There's a guy here that is trying to sell 3-4 dozen pieces. I haven't reached out because I'm not interested in those genres, but you hardly ever see anything like that anymore.

Nice find and cool story behind it. :thumb: To complete the display, I think you need a shadowbox with the bra. :kidaround:

Neat finds. The Acclaim Turok turned out to be pretty decent after the mini series changed over to the one shots.

There was definitely worse things put out by Acclaim during that time...
