Meeting JS June 9th... need input
I will be meeting Jim Shooter Thursday, June 9th at a restaurant for lunch. It's an open platform. He has to sign some stuff for Magnus, I will have my fancy camera with me. If anyone has any questions to ask JS, email them to me at jmpet@aol.com
If anyone has anything to be signed, email me for my address so he can sign them in front of me.
Deadline is ummm... June 2nd.

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
I guess you guys need some incentive for you to contribute to what I want to turn into an interview? OK.
I would like EVERYBODY to send me questions to ask Shooter.
The prize is a copy of Alpha & Omega Soft TPB signed by Shooter.
I will randomly pick a winner from all of you good folks.
Come on guys- I am sure all of you can think up three questions to ask Shooter... I would like to go in with 20 good questions. I will videotape the interview and put it on YouTube... how many of you people have seen video of Shooter???
And don't forget, if you want books signed, e-mail me and we'll get it done.

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
Questions for one of my favorite creators ever:
1) If it were possible, which current Valiant character would you like to script a special one-shot story for?
2) If Dynamite were suddenly imprisoned in the Phantom Zone and you could secure the rights to Magnus, Solar, and Turok, would you consider teaming up with Valiant to revisit Unity 2000 in some form?
3) I attended a writing seminar you gave at Chicago-Con back in the mid-90s (1994 I think) and really enjoyed it. Would you consider writing a definitive book or doing a special comic on your philosophy to creating?
Thank you.

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
My questions for JS would be....
1) based on your experience of the comic industry, what does VEI need to do differently (if anything) to take it to the next level in closing the gap on the big 2?
2) Which current day writers and artists impress you the most and why?
3) what would it take for you to launch a brand new universe in today's comic book market?
![Thumbs Up :thumb:](./images/smilies/thumbsup2.gif)

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
Few questions:
1. Has he read any of VEI's books? What does he think of them?
2. What is his opinion now on VEI's progress after 4 years since the re-lanuch.
3. Would VEI now be in better or worse shape if he stayed on board.![Hope :hope:](./images/smilies/893crossfingers-thumb.gif)

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
Fanboy softballs or gut wrenching career introspection?
1) Please elaborate on his brief time with VEI.
2) In hindsight, does he wish he was still involved with the current publisher? If he had it to do again, what would he do differently?
3) Would he consider a cameo in one of the upcoming movies?
4) What is his connection with the GK3 and why does he always seem to be involved with their many incarnations?
5) At this point in his career, is he more proud of his time spent at Marvel or the creation of Valiant?
6) If he was charged with writing Steven Massarsky's epitaph, what would it be?
7) If he was charged with writing his own epitaph, what would it be?
8) What was the creative genesis for the Warriors of Plasm concept? Was he influenced by a movie or book he'd read? (Or wrote?)
9) What accomplishment was he most proud of with his time at Marvel? Least proud?
10 What accomplishment was he most proud of with his time at Valiant? Least proud?
11) How is Paul Creddick doing these days?

The way information is spread, accessed by private individuals and different lines of financing available now such as kickstarter, have you ever thought of restarting a comic book line independently?
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
1) Thoughts on the present comic market, and speculation on the future of the comic market. Can comics survive without cross promotion (ie movies, television); what will the market look like in ten or twenty years?
2) Are the marketing tools of the 90's (ie. Zero issues; incentive covers; variant covers; mail aways etc) a positive/neutral/negative to the comic industry today? (Overused, underused,)
3) How would you propose entering the market Today with a new line; what differences Today versus entering the comic market of the 90's via Broadway, Defiant and Valiant?
4)who owns the rights to Broadway comics and Defiant comics? What was the premise of Schism crossover going to be?

Did you continue to read VALIANT after you were forced out? If so, what was the best story they did that you had no involvement in? The worst?

I would also put forth, but do not know how it phrase it.Phantom wrote:The way information is spread, accessed by private individuals and different lines of financing available now such as kickstarter, have you ever thought of restarting a comic book line independently?
Comics are better known now, and in current culture with films and TV. But this is not reflected in sales. High cover prices, decompression of story telling within such a small marketplace ~ what would you do to bring in more readers?

Not a question, but more of a nudge to see if Jim plans to attend Stockton Con in August.

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
Hey Joe!
It's been a long long time since our exchange of e-mails over at VEO. I'm delighted you're still involved with Valiant matters -- and with Jim.
While I doubt Jim would want to get involved with Valiant again -- I think he kinda signed off on VH1 and VH2 with his Unity 2000, and his stay at VEI appears to have been rather unpleasant -- I do wish he could somehow revive Defiant, especially Plasm. But that too seems unlikely, so my one question would concern:
Daring Comics... The Anomalies. Does Jim still have the rights? Would he consider pushing that title and others through a publisher like Boom or IDW?
Personally, I feel VEI should make Jim an integral part of the company. As entertaining as VEI can be at times, it needs the comic-book cohesion he is so good at, and his ability to create a logical linked universe, something that, IMO, it is sorely lacking...
I would like to catch up with you. Is it OK if I send you a personal e-mail in the next few days?
My best to Jim -- and to you.

One question that has in part been answered before. I know more of Unity 2000 was scripted and more penciled by Starlin (I have one of the pages), but have there ever been any talk of actually finishing and printing it by you and Starlin. It's an unscratched itch I have from two of my most cherished creators. I followed both Jims since their beginning days and just am so freakin curious about this.

And on the same note since this didn't go well would they ever consider doing another project together, because with 2 Jims you can't go wrong.![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Lots of good questions have already been posted....
Which writer/artist would you have liked to work with but never had the chance to?
What's VEI doing really good, and not so good?
Do you think VEI is missing Magnus and the other Gold Key characters, or are they better off without them?

Re: Meeting JS June 9th... need input
What Batman and Superman are to DC, and Spider-man and X-Men are to Marvel, which characters are to Valiant in your eyes? Do you see Bloodshot and Harbinger as the two logical choices to breakout mainstream into other media as a starting point or would you look at going in a different direction?
