Selling every VEI issue released to date
I am looking to sell my entire Valiant collection, which basically consists of every issue released by Valiant since the 2012 relaunch (even including Legends of the Geomancer. I'm not looking to get rich, and I am fairly certain I will get nowhere near what I bought them for, but my question is, what would be the best way to sell this collection. As one entire unit? Should I break them up by title (realizing that stuff like Dead Drop will likely never sell)? What would you expect to make from such a collection (very few incentive covers, books in NM condition.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Selling every VEI issue released to date
By incentive covers do you mean no variants?
Honestly, most VEI regular books don't have much (to any) back issue value.
Usually the best way to sell is full runs. But honestly variants will drive the value. No variants, unfortunately mean little value.
Sorry for the bad news.

Re: Selling every VEI issue released to date
Sorry to see that you are selling all your books, but I agree with Elveen that your best bet is to sell the individual runs at a discounted rate. Intrepidxc recently sold his runs and switched to trades and this was his approach. You might get lucky and find a new Valiant collector that wants to buy several title runs from you in one shot.
Good luck!

Re: Selling every VEI issue released to date
Perhaps try the CBR boards where you may find a new Valiant collector looking to pick up whole runs?

I'm still going to be on Valiant, but I'm just going to be switching to trades and/or hardcover deluxe editions. I simply have too many boxes of single issues around and I'm trying to convert.

I think it's a shame that asking for cover price on a back-issue Valiant title is a no sale prospect. With such low print runs, you'd think these comics will be back-issue gold eventually. If the upcoming movies don't break Valiant out of this funk I don't think anything will.

That's true with comics in general, though.Funcha wrote:I think it's a shame that asking for cover price on a back-issue Valiant title is a no sale prospect. Yes. such a small % of books sell for over cover on the back issue market.

You might consider binding most of them. It would be likely be cheaper than selling and switching.

Re: Selling every VEI issue released to date
That is a good idea, Aram. DFAB binding would cost around 18.00 per book and you could bind up to 30 comics in one HC. You would have to factor in shipping back and forth to the binder too. For example, you could bind the entire Bloodshot run, issues 0-25 for close to the cost of one Deluxe HC that only covers half the issues.Aram wrote:You might consider binding most of them. Re: Selling every VEI issue released to date
If your goal is to get rid of the collection and you're not too worried about recouping your costs, then I would sell complete runs of each series you have on eBay and start the bidding for each set at .99 with no reserve. A low opening bid will attract bidders, especially if the books are in high grade and you're selling them bagged and boarded. The goal is to get people to place some early bids in hopes of getting an amazing deal so maybe you end up with a few people bidding against each other at the end and driving up the prices.
Yes, you will not likely get close to the money you have into the books, but you might be able to get $25 or more for runs of the more popular series (Harbinger, Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, etc.). Of course selling on eBay can be a lot of work with taking photos, creating the listings, and then packing and shipping everything, so you have to consider if it's worth your time for the money you're likely to get.
For the less popular series that may not sell at all, such as Quantum & Woody, Delinquents, Dead Drop, etc.) you might lump those in with other mini-series that will attract bidder attention, such as Harbinger Wars or Divinity. Buyer will most likely bid to get the books they want but you can also get rid of the stuff that will be much harder to sell in the process, and then the buyer can figure out what to do with them.
As others have said, without the rarer variants you're not going to get much for these sets and runs, but it might be worth it to you to get them into the hands of other collectors or readers rather than just, say, donating them to the Goodwill (if you just want to get rid of them). And if you set up the auctions professionally, by clearly listing everything in the lots along with a brief description of the condition of the books, include a few good pics of the books, and have a low starting bid, I expect you'll get some action and at least be able to get some money for your efforts.
