VC.com MADE the prices what they are today. Back before I left in '03, I loathed seeing people post saying they had told so and so, or this dealer, or someone else about this site.dino wrote:Cear is a vc.com made book. Without this site that book would be nothing. What is the Chaos Effect compared to Harbinger!

UNITY RED!!!
Seriously though, really tough picks. Although I figured Rai #3 should win over Harbinger #1 just because it's more engrossing, better cover and more dynamic, I'm sure Harbinger will win because of what it stood for 15 years ago.

Getting really hard now. Here are my deciding factors as most now are equal on many levels.
Round 4a - Harbinger 1 First Issue (with coupon) vs. Rai 3
--- picked Rai as it was my first Valiant ever bought and without it I would not have gotten into Valiant, or comics, at the time. This was by far the hardest yet for me.
Round 4a - Solar, Man of the Atom 10 FIRST PRINT vs. Magnus Robot Fighter 1 First Issue (with coupon)
--- picked Solar based on EW.
Round 4b - Unity 0 RED vs. Solar Hardcover 'Alpha & Omega' 0
--- picked Unity Red as it has it all.
Round 4b - Chaos Effect Alpha RED vs. Harbinger 0 PINK SENDAWAY
--- picked Harbinger based on story.

Two key factors for me are: Magnus wasn't created by Valiant and the Solar is EW's (created by Valiant) first appearance . This is the same reason why I would pick Harbinger over Magnus, Solar or Turok. It is not for lack of love for Magnus but I just gotta go with something that Valiant created over something Valiant revamped.darkknight919 wrote:Unblessed wrote:Magnus #1 > Solar #10 anyday!!!

Very well said. I'll take the underdog every time. Thats why I'll never bet anything other than Monster Burgers (mmmmm.....Hardee's.....what!?!?) for lunch in my office pools.

I consider what Shooter did with Magnus as a valiant creation in its own right. I've read most of the 60s Magnus books and while they are good they are not great by any means. I would never think to buy a trade of them if it wasn't for Valian'ts early Magnus. Shooter changed so much and made so many right choices it's like he recreated the characters. Leeja is a great example compare her in #13 and onwards to Russ Mannings Leeja. Shooter used the first dozen valiant books to change her into one of the best female characters in comics, even today. The change Magnus himself went through shouldn't be undervalued either. With Manning he was the can do no wrong hero but Shooter had him living in the underbelly of North Am and branded a traitor in just four issues. The x-men have been trying to do that for years (Zero Tolerence) and the avengers have recently had a go too, both failed. So for me Valiant created the Magnus I lovex-omatic wrote:Two key factors for me are: Magnus wasn't created by Valiant and the Solar is EW's (created by Valiant) first appearance . The reason that Magnus got my vote is simple - This is the first "true" Valiant comic in my opinion. Sure, we had the WWF and Nintendo issues before this, but Magnus was the first book that began to establish the Valiant universe. That's just what ran through my mind when I saw this matchup.x-omatic wrote:Two key factors for me are: Magnus wasn't created by Valiant and the Solar is EW's (created by Valiant) first appearance .
