Sony will make too many mistakes
Anybody worried the V stuff might have to change studios because of the nutty stuff Sony's movie arm makes recently?

Re: Sony will make too many mistakes
That depends entirely on how much creative control Sony has in the making of the Valiant movies. I can't point to a source anymore, but I seem to remember hearing or reading somewhere (back when the movie deals were first announced) that VEI had maintained most to all of the creative control for the characters/movies that were set up under the movie deal. Like they were just using Sony mostly as a distribution platform. So not quite up to the level like Marvel having their own studio, but the next step down from that. If that is true, then I've got plenty of hope. If that info is wrong, then who knows. I know Dino has film experience (or at least some training, as that is what he was going to college for before diverting to buy up the Valiant properties and starting VEI with Jason Kothari), so I trust him to do the best he can with what control they have.
Other than that, it's not worth much in the way of speculation to me, because we won't know until the movies actually start coming out. I'll judge those books once I've read them, not by looking at their covers.

Re: Sony will make too many mistakes
Sony has been doing a lot of weird stuff lately. I've loved Sony tech for a LOONNNGGGG time now, but they've made some lackluster decisions over the last few years that have hinted at a big cultural shift away from the sort of progressive business model they had in the past which led them to great proprietary software in their hardware, as well as encompassing machines like the PS2 and PS3.
There were the mistakes with their 4k T.V. division recently. A few bad hacks and poor handling of their network. Then of course, the PS4 was mishandled from the beginning (like a step back given the PS3). Then you have their movie division producing flimsy content as opportunistically as possible (e.g. the Spider-Man shared universe nonsense, Ghostbusters reduxe, etc.)
Not good. I hope they turn it around.

to be honest, this worry about how the movies will turn out is the same as of anything I like getting turned into a movie. Will just have to see once we get more info before thinking if it's going to be bad or good.

Nah. The VEI movies will be their own thing, same as every superhero movie.
I trust Dino and Warren on this. The comics are the most important thing, and the movies a sub-product.

Re: Sony will make too many mistakes
These films had better be seriously awesome.
I buy Valiant titles because I like them (Faith, A&A aside), but I sense a bear market developing for those that are buying titles to resell at a premium down the line.
I have acquired some some insane deals on back issues that remind me of the days before the films were announced. This is only my anecdotal take, but without some seriously awesome films in the not too far future, prices will continue to fall and I'll finally be able to snag a Chaos Effect Alpha Red that I want for less than $100 ... and maybe zone in on a Platinum Error Bloodshot #0 for $500 or less.

Re: Sony will make too many mistakes
At least it's not FOX. I'd hate to see another comic book universe in their hands. However, I could see SONY's movie arm on the way out in the same way that Carloco and Canon died. SONY just doesn't make good decisions. So I do hope they are just the money behind the creativity, but when have we ever seen a movie studio say 'here's some money, go create'? Regardless, I think SONY was a bad choice just because Valiant is already fighting an uphill battle in the comic world with naysayers. Now with SONY ties that same audience is going to have one more thing to throw Valiant under the bus for.
All that *SQUEE* said, I've loved Valiant since 1993 and always will. I wish them so much luck. VEI is amazing on every front. I hope that they do always stay comics first, because they're the best out there. Compass points.

Sony is on the marvel/Disney bandwagon now because they know the marvel movie formula works. Spiderman Homecoming looks amazing.
If Sony continues with following comic book history and marvel movie formula then we could see some awesome movies.
I'm all about Bat in the Sun JDF looks Badass!

Re: Sony will make too many mistakes
I agree with you about Homecoming. It looks great and should be, but that's because Marvel is in full creative control. SONY knows how they screwed up with Spiderman 3 and the two Amazing Spiderman movies. They did the same thing FOX has done; gone off script from the comics. I just wonder how much creative control Valiant will have since they don't have the power nor deep pockets of Marvel, especially now that they are Disney owned. And as good as JDF looks, he most likely won't be the movie Bloodshot. None of those actors will likely make it to the movies. Similar to the CW shows and the WB movies. However, I can't wait for the webseries. Valiant is hitting all the places Marvel and DC are not. That's a nice way to start.777Peralta wrote:Sony is on the marvel/Disney bandwagon now because they know the marvel movie formula works. Spiderman Homecoming looks amazing.

I'm pretty sure that part of the plan for these is that Dinesh is one of the Producers in this and he'll have a lot of say if that makes anybody feel any better.
I am selling "nothing" on ebay-yet.

Re: Sony will make too many mistakes
Sony must be doing something right to where enough people go to the movie.
Fantastic Four
budget = 88, mill
box office = 330 mil
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
budget = 120 mil
box office 288 mil
Fantastic Four (again)
budget = 120 mil
box office = 167 mil
X-Men: The Last Stand
budget = 210 mil
box office = 459 mil
X-Men: Apocalypse
budget = 178 mil
box office = 542 mil
I too hope they do it properly for any movies based off of a Valiant character.
The only ones I thought they could do that had not already been done in some form would be
X-0, Bloodshot and ShadowHawk (unknown ID).
Here's hoping that whichever ones are done, its done so that people would go watch it to make it worthwhile to make another.

Isn't it a lot to ask from a director to make 3 great movies one after an another? The supergeniuses won't be making cape movies. Outside investor maybe can sink Disney/Marvel money but Disney's game is Disney's game. Universal already fel flat on their face trying to copy Marvel. it's kinda irrelevant what Sony tries since all the major brands are already taken. They have to make their own from scratch or from existing IP.777Peralta wrote:Sony is on the marvel/Disney bandwagon now because they know the marvel movie formula works.
