It Came from the Longbox
A friend of mine sleeps on a mattress atop his long boxes. He’s got back issues.
But seriously, spent the holiday re-bagging and boarding the collection (no life), and I came across these Whitman 2nd prints. Any thoughts on where these came from? I assume from some KB toys 3 pack, but not sure. Can’t imagine these garnered a second print from being sold out.

Also, if you were a kid and saw this advertisement, how were you not plunking down your change and buying that first issue?

I've got a couple Bat books from the exact same era that are 2nd prints. IIRC they are from TRU multi-packs from back in the day or something like that....possumgrease wrote:A friend of mine sleeps on a mattress atop his long boxes. He’s got back issues.

I love dad jokes.
There is a comic podcast called Girls With Issues. I haven't listened to it much but think it's a great name.

Yep. I owned these book from back in the day. They were sold in multipacks at Wal-Mart and such.IMJ wrote:I've got a couple Bat books from the exact same era that are 2nd prints. I don’t even know how stuff like this ended up in my collection. Can’t throw it away though, right?

That's got a Jim Shooter connection. Defiant was financed with investment from The River Group... makers of that comic.possumgrease wrote:

Admittedly rather tenuous, probably a weaker connection than to any modern Marvel comic or Legion of Superheroes.greg wrote:That's got a Jim Shooter connection. Defiant was financed with investment from The River Group... makers of that comic.possumgrease wrote:

I remember this book. I had one, and later came into a few. Loved Sam kieth at the time. His style definitely didn’t age as well as others, and to me, it symbolizes late 80s and early 99s at, the same way as Liefeld and Larsen do.
