Ultraverse - Issue List

I could say that about most of the DUs that are out there... cause uh, if nobody has caught on yet, uh these books are in the DU section because they pretty much flopped (whether due to popularity or business mismanagement, speculation etc). So, as a rule these books are not that popular anyways. And by that I mean so popular that people are paying top dollar for them.
Damn, I am pretty impressed. My ultraverse list seems as big as ever.depluto wrote:I just got one of those ... the one I'm missing is one of the Ultraverse Origins.Knightt wrote:Let me guess... I also need just one U5000 for a complete set there.

Yep, yep... a Joker as well.
I do not have any of these cards as 'Promo cards'. Now upon closer inspection I found some variants to cards that I had to roll my eyes and mutter 'oh cripes'... just added about five cards to my list. But again, that is just the love of the DUs, finding more stuff. At least it is for one of what I consider the tough DUs (books and cards alike) to finish instead of some obscure DU.
I am very surprised at how many variants, Con card variants and off the wall products that Ultraverse (Malibu) produced back in the day. I guess that lends to the feeling I had when reading the books. I mean, when I read Valiant for the first time, I felt as if that DU had been around forever... same thing with Ultraverse, there was an automatic breadth and width to the universe, it felt as it had been around for a long time before I cracked open those first books during the Jumpstart.
Many folks mock the Ultraverse but there was A LOT of work that went into just getting that first set of books off the press and to have them with a 'history'. Yes, the art was not the best, yes, some of the titles were kinda kooky but there was a very solid (IMO) continuity and and... I dunno, it is like I was reading a story right in the early days. There was something about it but I collected EVERY title and looked forward to the next. I think my favorites might have been Hardcase, Freex and The Solution. ooh ooh, I just picked up a (in wonderful condition) copy of Rune #0. Sweet Lord, that is one heck of a great story and it has BWS written all over it and a kick *SQUEE* cover.
Now here we are after the dust and ash have settled, picking through a chewed up and spit out company, a company in ruin (thank you to all the spank-nuts at Marvel.... ooooooh, I will NEVER forgive them for their intention and disembowelment of the Ultraverse) and findings diamonds in the rough. Here we have probably the MOST comprehensive Ultraverse to exist on the internet and we are STILL coming up with new items. We have spurts in activity and lulls but then so does my wanker so I figure we are running about even. The Ultraverse gets more attention than I think any other DU we cover. I can't tell you when Bravura was brought up (OH, another Malibu effort I might add). This is to me one of those stellar DUs that is equally divided. By that I mean
1) you can collect just the common issues and it might be a chore
2) you can collect only the premium books and it WILL be a chore
3) lastly, you can try and collect EVERYTHING (books, premium issues, cards, action figures, buttons, etc
I remember back in the day when me, depluto and Brother J pretty much carried the message traffic on another board originally dedicated to Defiant and man, there was some WORK to be done on that initial list and out of all the lists, the Ultraverse list has had the most work and additions made to it. It is a living document.
I am glad that so much work has been done on this and I FONDLY remember 'launch day', I mean you could start NEW (as I missed the baby steps of Valiant) with a fully stocked universe. I believe that Comics Greatest World started around the same time but there was NO where near the excitement for me. I eagerly waited for launch day and then picked up two of every issue and then the fun began. That MUST have been the summer of '94 because I remember the books coming out and then I deployed for the Haiti invasion that year then I literally flew back from Port Au Prince to Fort Bragg, AZ where I had to start out processing immediately as I came down on orders for Germany. Well, I found an LCS that was mentioned in Wizard magazine, I contacted them and got a great deal on my 'pull list' and then they shipped all my books, once a month (I think with shipping I was pulling $150 a month for books) over to me in Germany. So, in part I missed some of the cool stateside stuff but I remember that when I got my 'box', it was Ultraverse that I read first, then Valiant, the my X-Titles and then Image. Those were good times and maybe why I collect these with a bit more excitement.
I want to shout out to guys like depluto, Brother J, Prelate and all the others that have seriously taken this DU on and have gotten SO far. NEVER have I seen more variants and oddball books, cards and memorabilia !! And we have guys, stickin' it out for the long haul.
Long journey since those old 'Hostile Takeover' days, eh guys ?

This has been my experience, I've bought some kooky *SQUEE*. But as far as the comics I've just tried to be patient (I'll wait years for the right price) and I'm getting pretty close. Other stuff, and some extras, I just buy them when I see them.Knightt wrote:3) lastly, you can try and collect EVERYTHING (books, premium issues, cards, action figures, buttons, etc

I was going thru some UV stuff last night and I found the poster for the Solitaire launch.depluto wrote:So all five of those came in the polybags, or was one a promo card?
The poster is a shot of the Solitaire #1 cover with pics of all 4 Aces flying thru and it says at the top something like "1 of 4 in each polybag".
So I'm not sure if the Joker was available in the Solitaire #1 polybag, maybe it was a promo bagged with Wizard or Hero Illustrated.

This is a nice piece, something you don't see everyday.
I picked up one of these last year for $7 shipped (mine's #30).
Last time I looked there were one or two of these on eBay but they are overpriced IMO.
Nice pickup dude.
