Re: WTB VH2 Valiant

Good luck, show us the results when you get things bound!

I think there are only a few VH2s that have gone up in price over the years, and the later books have always been pricier due to the low print runs. I sold all mine years ago unfortunately.

Re: Some foreign Gold Key comics

Those are awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely the Alberto Giolitti art (first b&w picture) translates great to b&w with his strong blacks and excellent linework.

The second b&w image is Rex Maxon art, doesn't translate as well, looks like some of his detail got washed out.

Too bad there isn ...

Re: Jim Shooter is dead

I'm always bummed when we lose a creator. This one has emotionally affected me more than I anticipated. I'm glad I finally had the chance to meet him in person a couple of years ago. Some had their issues with him, but the stories shared by others show that he was generous, gracious, and kind. No ...

Re: Jim Shooter is dead

Crushing. 73 is too young. I only ever interacted with him through email in the 2000s but he was always super gracious and willing to answer questions. The last 10-15 years he's been doing the con circuit and a lot of youtube interviews I hope he was able to feel the big impact he had on so many of ...

Your post read very condescending. If it wasn't meant to be an insult then perhaps soften your tone.

I was here in the 2000s. There were maybe 50 valiant fans that cared and most were posting here. Just look at how cheap you could get the most sought after books, you couldn't get them away in ...

I have zero interest in the old Valiant being brought into modern day. Bring back the days of very high quality event stories that were accessible to everyone and had top creators like Book of Death, Armor Hunters, The Valiant.

Re: Post Resurgence

The 1991 Valiant comics in 2001-2006 were a ghost town. They didn't really come back into popularity until VEI showed everyone just how good Valiant and the characters can be. 2012 was VEI.

Yeah you obviously weren't here or in the fanbase. 2001-06 a Ghost town? It was a vibrant and growing ...

Re: Post Resurgence

Matt Kindt didn't write Book of Death or Armor Hunters. You should read the comics before you dismiss them or make insults to people who bring them up.

I love 90s comics. I'm here because of them. But VEI didn't just modernize them they did it better. Then they expanded way past what 90s did or ...

Re: Post Resurgence

The further we get from the 90s, the less grounded the 'mafia hitman' angle is IMHO.

The Mortalli as a personality overlay can work but arguably not as the source since there are literally so many better options (soldiers, spies etc.).

Sure, there were a lot of elements in Bloodshot that were ...

Unfortunately the multiverse is here to stay. All we can hope for is that someday they re-interpret it in a way that fits VALIANT canon, then undo it.

That's the thing about fiction being all made-up though, it can just as easily be un-made-up. Or just like 'Beyond' is ignoring all previous ...

That would be cool. I've loved the new Compendium format for collecting big chunks of old comics for reasonable prices. Would love to see compendiums of all of pre-Unity, Unity, etc.

So stumbled on this. Looks like this collector has posted up some pages for Fatal #0,7 as well as a comic called Makeshift? First I have heard of that, but it is marked as being under Broadway as well.

Re: Post Resurgence

At the end of Resurgence, the VEI iterations of the VALIANT characters became lost in the multiverse.

Most are in the Underdeadside, some are still in the VEI reality, and Aram and Faith appear to be lost in the bridge between them.

What if Faith and Aram end up finding their way to the VH-1 and ...

Right? Another 'could'a been' in the Shooter catalogue. I still like Star Seed with Wendel/Nichols (and John Ross). But dang it's too bad they couldn't have gotten Swan to at least ink or something.

:o

Oh man.... Now THAT is exactly how I picture Shadowman. I wish VEI would take him in this direction. Mysterious, mystical and 100% Adult oriented.

Would be a big hit IMO.

Why would it not just be exactly as big a failure as when Acclaim did it that way?

I agree with Rico. A ...

Re: "We Anticipate Being Able to Focus on Expanding": Valiant Publisher Breaks Down New IDW Deal

I'm pretty sure Paramount and CBS must retain their version of creative and editorial decision making.

Consider that no matter who publishes those or other licensed comics they are always pretty much the same.

Whether it was Marvel or Dark Horse that published Star Wars and, now, Alien and ...

Re: "We Anticipate Being Able to Focus on Expanding": Valiant Publisher Breaks Down New IDW Deal

That's not quite what it says.

What it lays out is a standard licensing deal no different from the one IDW has with Paramount for the Star Trek and TMNT comics. In all instances, the licensee has to consult with the licensor to get approval for what they want to do.

With VALIANT we got used to ...

Re: "We Anticipate Being Able to Focus on Expanding": Valiant Publisher Breaks Down New IDW Deal

I mean the interview in the first post of this thread breaks it down pretty clearly. DMG hired Alien to produce their Valiant comic line. DMG still calls the shots and has final say in any major decisions, but has given over the day-to-day running of the comic book line to Alien. This has been ...

Re: What can I learn from Dinesh suffering a hostile takeover?

If the VEI books were actually as good as a few of the hardcores on here think, they would have had a much bigger impact. People would actually still be re-reading them today and there would be more Valiant fans left.

I think they were very successful for a certain type of reader, but removed from ...

I recently bought Tomahawk #56 because I was struck by the similarity to Magnus #12. I don't really think it counts as a swipe or homage, but there's some overlap in the composition and the subject matter.

The composition looks too similar in certain ways to be a coincidence, and considering ...

Shooter era is great, been done multiple times.

Latham had some strong issues like #12 and HARD Corps

Fontenot era 1 I enjoy, but has a good amount of filler too. Screen is awesome though and Harbinger #25 is an iconic issue.

26-38 is horrendous. Characters are unlikable, and maybe the first ...
