Acclaim Shadowman playing cards / origin?
This is the first time I have seen these. They have been mentioned before but never pictured. Does anyone know how these were originally distributed?
Acclaim Shadowman playing cards. Box is in rough condition but cards are still sealed in original packaging. Back of each card has Shadowman logo. Ace of spades design includes Redward London England. Made in the UK.

The box design matches the lobby cards I got years ago.
Acclaim Shadowman Limited Edition Lobby Cards. Paper envelope numbered 3981 / 5550 containing 6 8" x 10" prints promoting concept art from video game. These are printed on textured heavy cardstock.

Oh man.... Now THAT is exactly how I picture Shadowman. I wish VEI would take him in this direction. Mysterious, mystical and 100% Adult oriented.
Would be a big hit IMO.

Seen quite a few of lobby card sets for sale, but never wanted to pay the asking price.
But those cards are super cool. I would be on the hunt for them!

Man, I hope I find a set of these someday. I'd love to use them during a poker game. The artist and the designer did great jobs.

If you're going to play poker with the cards, you need these to complete the theme.Tony_H wrote:Man, I hope I find a set of these someday. I'd love to use them during a poker game. The artist and the designer did great jobs.
Acclaim Shadowman baseball cap with adjustable buckle and snap closure. Embroidered with Shadow Man on front and Acclaim on back. The tag says HeadShots by KC Caps. Made in Bangladesh. RN#89449 (H&C Headwear Inc. based in Carson, CA). It looks great and it is in like-new condition. Does anyone have any info on this? May be it's a prototype or promo item?

Re: Acclaim Shadowman playing cards / origin?
Thanks for the heads up.
I think I remember these, either guy in London or maybe this seller in Exeter was trying to sell these for years for about £60?
Cannot remember ~ always passed on them.

Sold for US$64 plus $16 shipping to the US. Hopefully a VF member won this.Gamer44 wrote:Totally man it's all rad. Found this on fleabay 222428334836, knock yourselves out. No wait, I mean eBay. Never knew there actually was a place called fleabay!?!?!

Re: Acclaim Shadowman playing cards / origin?
I probably paid more than that for my lobby cards and playing deck since I won them in separate auctions. Both sellers were non-US based and I had to pay international shipping twice.nycjadie wrote:Wow!

I put in my reasonable offer, just didn't want to pay more.
Obviously someone wanted it more.

Re: Acclaim Shadowman playing cards / origin?
Blimey. I'm a big Acclaim-era Shadowman fan and I know exactly what these are (don't own them however) but I find it hard to believe they're worth $64. Basically 6 A4-sized thick card prints and a pack of playing cards. Sure, limited edition, but that's really all they are.
Hope whoever ended up with them is happy with the price they paid

When I used to review video games I would get stuff like this all the time with review kits. I never got these but I did get a lot of other video-game themed playing cards.

Checking on if anyone has info on the playing cards? Or any other previously undiscovered Shadowman items?
Re: Acclaim Shadowman playing cards / origin?
Why would it not just be exactly as big a failure as when Acclaim did it that way?Ricomortis wrote: Fri Feb 03, 2017 11:28 pm![]()

Re: Acclaim Shadowman playing cards / origin?
I agree with Rico. A truly adult, sophisticated take on Shadowman would be cool. Less Voodoo Fantasy and more Urban Horror with mystical elements.syzhang28 wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 12:37 pmWhy would it not just be exactly as big a failure as when Acclaim did it that way?Ricomortis wrote: Fri Feb 03, 2017 11:28 pm![]()

The Acclaim (VH2 version) had a lot of cool pieces but it was never consistent enough to be a hit. They changed creative teams and direction like 3 times in 20 issues? They all had good aspects though. The Acclaim version was successful in video games as well.
The only truly successful version of Shadowman was Bob Hall's. When Birthquake happened due to line-wide low sales near the end of VH1, every title was either cancelled or got a major overhaul. Except Shadowman. That was the only book that they said just keep it the same, don't change anything. That shows it was a consistent seller and had a devoted readership.
