Re: Doctor Tomorrow Acclaim

Didn't the letters page say that it boiled down to Editorial wanting to end in a different direction (to go into Final Solution) than Layton wanted and Layton walked? Kenny Martinez was the penciler of Troublemakers which he did a great job on. Perhaps his style was more suited to that book, but I h...

Re: VALIANT MARCH 2020 COMIC BOOK SALES!!

X-O did sell 23,249 so maybe things will turn around (for that series) if new readers like it and decide to stick with it. Sales history has clearly shown us that stores order 20-30k of the Tier 1 character #1s and then #2 sales drop to the 10k or lower mark. With everything being a series of mini ...

Re: OTV/VCR - Bloodshot Movie Review

it would have crossed the 100 mil mark, and that’s not counting the world wide. By any standard I would say that’s a hit. By any standard of the 1990s, that would have been a hit. We're old. The $100m mark doesn't mean anything anymore. Bloodshot was not going to be a hit. It might have recouped it...

Re: DC is dropping Diamond on 4/28 for DCBS and Midtowncomics

"Dropping" is misleading. They are working with others until Diamond starts up again. The problem, as mentioned, is these are other retailers that undercut most comic shops. A large, multi-store shop in my area posted about this last night, including... You may or may not have heard that DC Comics a...

There is no Priority option at that price. I'm guessing they are tacking on additional costs for a Medium Box which is $13.20 this year.

Re: Acclaim X-O

I recently re-read all of Acclaim over a couple months and agree with your assessment of X-O. But anyone saying X-O, Shadowman, and Q&W are the highlights are crazy. Q&W, yes. It holds up as a great book 20+ years later. X-O is, as you say, "fine." I thought Shadowman was absolute garbage. Honestly...

Re: What was the Worst DMG/Valiant Series!?

Only 3?!? I voted for: Bloodshot: Rising Spirit Psi-Lords Visitor But I definitely had mental debate about the need to include: Livewire - I mean, really, this is absolutely as awful as the above Forgotten Queen - I hated it, but mostly for being forgettable and generic and a terrible character Punk...

Re: Bloodshot (2019) #7 Discussion

I just couldn't even bother reading the rambling over explanation of powers and expositions in a couple parts. I almost never do that, but this continues to just be awful. While I liked Laming's art well enough on #0, it didn't work for me here.

Re: Crossgen Comics appreciation and memories thread.

Chimera - Vanity project? Early days digital artwork that feels like early days digital artwork. Story by an artist that feels like a story by an artist. This was very generic and one-note. And while there was at least some sigilverse connection, it wasn't much of one and never came back around. Co...

Re: Crossgen Comics appreciation and memories thread.

Brath - Who was looking for a Braveheart/Gladiator mash-up? With whole scenes taken right from Gladiator? I don't know Braveheart well enough to recognize, but I assume from there too? This is wholly unoriginal but an easy read. DiVito's art at the onset was pretty awesome. There was a shift to ear...

Frustrated. Wrote this once already this morning and somehow lost it. Way of the Rat - At first I thought this just wasn't a book for me. After looking up his work history, I realize I've never been a fan of his art - a whole lot of linework, but nothing in a panel is the focus. But the longer this ...

Re: Crossgen Comics appreciation and memories thread.

Just read all 24 issues of The Path in 3-4 days. These books are so amazingly decompressed. For most of the first 20 issues, each one is a single scene that would be 3-4 pages in any other company's books. I lost track of how many issues spent the entire issue restating the premise of the series for...

Superhero, multiverse fun that Valiant rarely plays with. Good stuff that probably won't play well here.

Story has barely moved in four issues. Dialogue is tedious and one-note. Art degrades with every issue.

I didn't mind that you guys dove deep into this. It just didn't cross my mind. I really dig the perspective you've brought to the podcast. It's not all pie in the sky like some. It's not politically biased like some. It's just a comic fan digging what he digs. And being honest about what he doesn't.

Re: Rai #5 (2019) Discussion

Yeah, talking about comic (new or old) content seems extinct here. Keep it to slab, back issue sales, and a whole other publisher. I listened to VCR yesterday and those guys all had issues with plot points. I didnt think twice about what they were complaining about. I'm really enjoying the story. Ot...

The snippets from Rotten Tomatoes. And these are the good AND bad critic reviews. Which, including the Newsarama one, pretty much all sound exactly like what the trailers looked like. If Vin Diesel were a 12-year-old boy, he couldn't have dreamt up a better movie for his fan base than "Bloodshot." W...

"Retailer Editions" question

I got my hands on my first "Retailer Edition" #1. This one happens to be Ninja-K and scored it and some other variants for $1 a piece.

It has 10 pages of uninked, uncolored art. Are all the Retailer Editions previews and not full copies of the issues? I'm not disappointed, just curious.

Thanks!

(Re-)Reading Acclaim

Fabian takes over and restarts the universe. Sort of. It’s an admirable attempt and (mostly) far better than history and critics lead me to believe. I had only read Q&W and the 1999 stuff when it came out. Pretty much everything else was new to me. The titles are listed in the order in which they we...
