Re: more unpublished SOLAR Annual pages coming

It's one of my favorite Solar covers, certainly my favorite Layton Solar. I did a lot of work with that cover at a copy shop to get a properly prepared version to Janet Jackson to be colored in the old Valiant style, but life intervened and she never took on the project. I did get her the materials ...

Re: Proliferation of CBCS Slabs

I am not sure CBCS can ever overcome the advantage CGC has with their long established registry and competitive set building - putting all other factors aside. Your intel seems dead-on to me about why CBCS is being used a lot right now. Really it can only help CBCS, but I still think they perpetuall...

Re: Toughest CGC 9.8 Valiant Books (Pre Unity)

I am assuming you mean "get 9.8s graded yourself" versus "buy 9.8s already graded". Along with Solar 10, Harbinger 1 is at nearly the same level in general, although they may be ignoring some things they used to consider on that book given the recent history. Past that you are at...

Re: Sealed Super Mario Bros 1/Nintendo Comic System 1 question

These we prepackaged not from Valiant but created for non traditional retail stores. These packs always involved a no price version of one of the three that exist. Super Mario #1 was usually always included in the packs. Thanks for sharing if you are ever interested in selling this please let me kn...

Re: Sealed Super Mario Bros 1/Nintendo Comic System 1 question

We have always suspected that the no-price TPB was used in bundles like this. I agree that the one pictured must be missing a price sticker or insert with some marketing and the bundled price.

Re: I'm considering becoming a VH1 collector. Any tips or suggestions?

I'm not sure I agree with the premise that VH1 issues are hard to find for a reasonable price. If you buy the books in runs/sets, use reprints for the expensive issues, and avoid the big retail websites, I think you can get a really good collection going without spending too much. Don't most runs fi...

Re: Nintendo release dates and Link/Zelda first appearance question

A side note that the Zelda page printed in the NCS preview was never printed anywhere else. It was almost certainly part of the story in Zelda 1 but did not make the cut. And while we think this is the first time Valiant printed a product using Zelda, it is certainly not a "mass market US comi...

It clearly says 1991 on the back of the package. :thumb:
The condition kept the price down on that one. It's pretty jacked. Great pictures though.

Re: Nintendo release dates and Link/Zelda first appearance question

This is a great post and thread! I wanted to add a few clarifications to the information shared so far. There are no-price variants of: - Captain N #1 - Legend of Zelda #1 - Nintendo Comics System (TPB) #1 Maybe, just maybe, these were made available in packs. No pics/source available whatsoever! Th...

Re: Question about Deathmate White covers

So is there a white manufacturing error of each and every regular Deathmate issue or are the two linked the only known ones; blue & epilogue? I don't think every deathmate exists in white but more than just those 2 were found. Pretty poor quality control (or knowing and just not caring at all) ...

You are killing me here! Who is that guy with my avatar? I know quite a few people have tried to put together a set of blanks, not sure any have succeeded. I believe I had 4,5,6 blanks when I sold off my books. As long as they do not have any extraordinary value fakes are probably not a concern. But...

Re: Harbinger 1 Facsimile Edition - Kowabunga Comics Exclusive

Well I have to admit it looks really good. Maybe too good.

I am sure the paper stock will be off enough on the regular book to tell the two apart at a quick glance, but a swapperoo on the coupon might not be as detectable.

Anyone grab one from Kowabunga today?

Re: Ebay alternative

Check out "shortboxed.com". The downside is the $50 lower limit for slab price. And then there is always comiclink.com. Lower limit there too, and decently large fees. Upside is transactions are risk-free. Sales are double-blind.

Re: New Valiant Rarity?

Steve, I am curious about the story from the person you bought it from. What part of the country? Clearly it was sent to retailers to put on a stack of canned goods as an incentive. But it certainly wasn't nationwide or we would be swimming in them. Was it an eBay find? Great sleuthing regardless o...

I'm not sure we have ever seen what that no-price TPB was originally packaged with. I mean I have to assume it was in some sort of a bundle - like the book with the audio cassette tape.
