Case of 200 Valiant Comics

Post by Malev_Emperor »

Valiant Ones,

I just figured I'd share a cool recent find. I stumbled across a case of 200 Valiant Comics at an auction. It is a case of "Rai and the Future Force" #9.

I get the feeling there's not much love for the Future Force around here, lol. I happen to enjoy the Malev War storyline, so I'm glad I have them. There's a lot of action going on in the book and I love the art.

I wonder how many cases of 90's comics are still out there somewhere, sitting on a shelf in a warehouse, having never seen the light of day?

Friendly Frank's was a distribution company, so that case (if it is truly unopened) has literally never even reached a comic shop.

You know, it's your money and please feel free to do with it as you please, but why on earth would you buy a case of 200 issues of the same comic?

I love this and had opportunities to get one before, but didn't have the space.

Herein rests the essence of art collecting--buying a crate of books for love of the books in the crate! :thumb:

There are A LOT of Rai 9's around that is for sure. I see that book more than any other old Valiant book.

I asked myself the same question. I guess it boils down to my love for the original Valiant Universe's "future" tiles Magnus & Rai. Valiant was very important to me for a good five year period in the early/mid 90's, so nostalgia definitely plays a part. Plus, I think this particular issue was very well done and action oriented with lots of cool art. Plus the first appearance of Spylocke, who I always enjoyed.

Most importantly, i got it for a STEAL since no one else bid on it, lol.

Makes you wonder how many other unopened cases there are still out there.

Well I know for a fact Jim Shooter has a case like this of Harbinger 1's in his basement.

Layton has one too. And JJ. And every Valiant executive and artist at the time. And all their close relations, friends, acquaintances, pets, the custodial staff, the lunch ladies, Shooter's dry cleaner and trusted custom tailor. The print run on Harby 1 is really bigger than Rai 9. I know it.

It's a good thing that the case was delivered successfully, because that return address does not exist.

Maybe that's the address where Greg's Valiant FCBD books were sent.

275 Seventh Avenue was the Voyager HQ.

USPS would still try to leave a Form 3849* at 275 17th Avenue. :|

*Little known fact from Clfford C Clavin:
That's a Delivery Notice/Reminder/Receipt, one of those peach "Sorry we missed you." slips.

Understood, but it says Seventeenth, and there is no 17th Ave. I work very close to the old offices
