And FVL completes another amazing story.

I loved this issue, and really the whole series. Masterful storytellinng that satisfactorily closed out the story, while at the same time left room for further exploration within the story proper and introduced launching points for new plots.

Kudos FVL, that was some impressive work.

page 12 is a homage to magnus right? that early issue where all the robots attack him at home like a big swarm. that whole sequence with the fight through different time arcs was amazing, i wonder if the other bits were homages as well.

On another note, my comic book shop for the last 2 decades is closing on Monday. With my favorite series, Ivar, also ending, I am finally ending my regular comic book collecting hobby. It's a good time to leave. Maybe I would check a TPB in the bookstore from time to time.

That's funny. I didn't get the Magnus homage... but Oblivi-2 seemed like an obvious homage to the Mothergod Unity tower... which had the goal of ending existence.

I got the impression he was "future Ivar"... an Ivar whose personal timeline is beyond any stories told up to this point.

if ivar goes from plucked from boon by neela -> oblivi-2 -> 4001 -> imprisonment -> faraway -> being chased by prometheans -> 'first' meeting with neela -> death on oblivi-1 then theres not much of a window for him to do anything unless he doesn't die. there can't be much time at all between his A&A appearance and Ivar #1.

perhaps this is the end of his story and neela will fill his role moving onwards

The recent FLV interview confirmed he has a project line up with Valiant that's not centered around the three brothers.
Judging by the ending of this issue, I'm 100% sure he's going to write the Unity reboot starring XO Manowar, Ninjak, Livewire, Armstrong and Neela the Timewalker.

archer frees him, he goes to do the binge drinking with armstrong and then he tells archer that the prometheans are after him and he has to find neela, there is definitely not much (if anything) between the binge drinking issue and ivar #1

the only times he might have been able to do other things are before he went to gilad in 9999 but after neela is taken to oblivi-1 or between archer & armstrong and ivar #1 (which can't be very long).

maybe im missing another gap but it seems like we have seen his life as timewalker from start to finish between archer & armstrong and this series

Amazing issue. I'm sad to see it end, but happy it is a complete story. This is the story I need most of all in a deluxe hardcover.

Yes, that collection will be glorious!

On more Neela/Ivar stories, I think they can cross paths again, just never be together as a couple. It seems that their coupling is what causes the Null to be unable to destroy the universe, so to keep that timeline from happening they need to be apart. And even without that, due to timey-wimeyness, they could have had adventures we didn't see between the others we did. I hope to see a reunion sometime.

That's what I like to think. He's Ivar-Beyond. If we follow the Doctor Who analogy his past events are time locked. Can't go mucking about. But he might be able to bend the rules just enough.

With time travelers, there's always wiggle room. We saw this story completed, but that doesn't mean there aren't others still to be told. While Ivar does say to Aram that he has to go save a girl, he could just have easily gone on many adventures in between in an attempt to delay the inevitable. He knows once he goes to save Neela that it will end with his death. He could have had a million stories in between. Not so different from what Clara was doing with her "sidekick" at the end of the most recent season.

And a new Unity series by FVL, where they are traveling through time to prevent the destruction of the universe...sounds a lot closer to the original Unity...at least in spirit. And if anyone can write the meeting of VALIANT characters through time, it's FVL. Bring it on!

There is tons of room with the story. You are looking at it too linearly.

For example he might have had tons of adventures whilst hopping from arc to arc to find Obliv-2. You just don't know.

You may be saying that the way he communicates with the female dinosaur is the same as young Ivar but he (Ivar) is just too damn smart. He may have been separated, spent a gazillion years on the run, and plotting his master plan etc, comes back and catches up with dinosaur lady and heads to Obliv2.

Also, that Ivar may have been a future Ivar (who doesn't die in Obliv-1 again as per his own plan).

* important note here is when he gets to Obliv-2 he is absolutely prepared, he has the breathing devices ready (2 no less) and future weapons (that just happen to be effective against prometheans) - and he reveals his absolute love for Neela (like future Ivar would)

I think Ivar's 'genius super brain' has fooled everyone into some master plan he came up with his first go round in time jail. Something else rather suspicious is young Ivar knowing he had would be sent to Time Jail at the end. Maybe he was debriefed by future Ivar already on the subject.

I also suspect one of the Jailers to be Ivar himself (some future version of him), specifically the one that says 'He seemed lonely' when asked why he sent the female dinosaur to Ivar.

Finally, my last point on theorizing why Ivar might be one of the Jailers is this: We know why Gilad is immortal, we know why Armstrong is immortal, we don't know why Ivar is immortal - In fact, based on this run, he is not immortal. Ivar was taken out of his time the moment he activated the boon and therefore I don't believe he is immortal as a result of that. We know however, that the Jailer's in the Faraway use the device built by Ivar's own designs (which Arstrong had) to gain immortality as seen in the 'American Wasteland' arc of Archer and Armstrong.

What the real answer is, I suspect FLV will blow us away yet again once he continues his work on the subject. Which may be a while being that he said his next thing with Valiant would not involve the 3 brothers.... oh well. Love him anyway.

i guess there can be more wiggle room than i think there is, we will see how they play it.

the time jail thing though is because he already met the seven saints while time travelling in issue 9

Loved this issue, and a very fitting end to a very well constructed run. Even though I hoped that FVL would be able to write around the bitter-sweet resolution, I am pleased he didn't, but more pleased he inverted my other expectation of Ivar being placed ready to adventure forth by setting us up with Neela, Timewalker. Great stuff IMHO.

And as for Ank? I think in a short time for this reader she has become an already favourite VALIANT character, and one i hope to see more of.
