Rai 9.8 Set

Post by Dr. Phil Seleski »

How high do you thing this one is going to go? Already up past 140 with 8 plus days left. One of the bidders has a 1 feedback. Makes me suspicious.

I think it could end up a bit more than double what it's at now. I don't think thats a wierd bidder yet. His one feedback is for another rai lot too. Heh.

I'd guess the seller is probably a board member or a frequent lurker. I don't like seeing the private feedback though. Looks like the Rai 3 is the not-centered version from the pics.

Looks like a nice set, but I love how some bidders feel the need to bid so frequently during the week just to see their names on top for the moment. :!:
I only care about being on top at the end, not jacking up the price bidding all week long.

I'd say the set could go for about $250-$300. :atomic:

But that's more that what I think people are willing to bid. :atomic:

definitly, at least 300, and it wouldnt really be a bad deal, especially for 3 and 4, depending on how centered they are, even 5 can be a pain to get in good shape, with the black cover

I don't understand the private feedback in this case...
it looks like he's got 100% positives... so why privacy? :|

Just FYI, I belieive three of the books were submitted by me. The 0, 1, and 8's invoice numbers are familiar. (The first part of the serial number is the invoice number).

I'm a buyer of this set under $250. I have no doubt it will go higher than that. If you exclude Vintage Magnus, and sets including Harbinger 1 and Solar 10, the Rai 2-5 run is the hardest 4-issue run to complete in 9.8. You have to go to like Magnus 11-14 or Harbinger 4-7 to even get close.

Two reasons for this. First, Rai 3 and 4 9.8s will always be tightly held. Very special books, or at least that is the perception. Worse, the 2 and 5 are very difficult in grade.

All IMHO! :-) Not trying to hype this for the seller, (whom I do not know) but this is one of the rare cases where listing as a set may have some merit.

It went just a tad (about $200) more than I was looking to spend. Really nice Rai bunch though.

567 bucks wow!

Who is xcoll0016 by the way? I think he won the X-O/Eternal Warrior CGC sets too.

I'd rather take a few chances with some raw books then ever pay almost 600 bucks.

Holy *SQUEE*! :o

Wouldn't it be a helluva lot cheaper to buy them separately?

But I guess when you are an oil baron like Rico, you can afford it.

Rico made him pay what they are worth. Good for you Rico, although I know you wish you had won.

I know who xcol is but I do not want to blow his cover.

Why thank you ckb. You and me BOTH know who the competition is. Life is going to be difficult. :P

Congrats to <cough cough> xcol <cough cough> I still think he needs to put up pictures of his slabs... so we can really drool. :thumb:

:o $567 :o

I never thought that it would go that high :?

However......

The average/high cost for RAI this year are:
0 (9.8) 34.53/66.50
1 (9.8) 56.90/68.49
2 (9.8) 56.16/68.50
3 (9.8) 112.37/158.00
4 (9.8) 105.00/158.00
5 (9.8) 73.49/73.49
8 (9.8) 37.63/55.90

Total cost $476.08/$648.88

So the winning bid was between average and high; not bad :thumb:
