Their books are average, not bad but not a homerun by any means. They need upgrade their coloring and art to compete with Marvel and DC, their writing needs some personality, Van Meter injects a lot personality in Shan. I can't say that for Eternal Warrior or X-O as both have literally the same he-man personality.

Lastly their's no weekly spokesperson pimping Valiant like Marvel does once a week on CBR, They even have DC's editors interview once a month at least. Valiant needs a spokesperson/editor that tweets and keeps readers appraised of weekly storylines, as opposed to quarterly or annual publicity. It has to be frequent and most importantly made relevant to the current status of Valiant, not just far flung future Valiant.
Well it is a Valiant site after all...I would hope it's a cheerleading squad.

but I would like to know what sales really has to do with best comics on that list...It's supposed to be the 100 best comics.

Cheerleading? Lol!

If its badass it's badass! I give other publishers and series just as much enthusiasm, if it deserves it.

We are here because we think it is good... Hence the name "valiantfans". facepalm

Everyone knows what they NEED to do. This is a very FLOODED, competitive, big boy dominated industry. I'm going to push what's good.... Why? So they make more. I personally just want all these people who read over done crap to read something good. You call it cheerleading.... I call it getting people's head out Harley Quinn's *SQUEE*. :o

Is the word socially aware often used in the top 100 reviews?

Nice to see you have reached over 1000+ posts.

Have I missed anything these past few months?

Perhaps the #101-110 Ranked book is Valiant.

Sales equals publicity, regardless of it's quality...which is probably why some those so-called crap titles made CBR's list. Bottom line here is that Valiant isn't getting the recognition it needs to foster better sales. I'm not talking about recognition from critics or awards, I'm talking about with it's own publicity machine, they aren't pimping their books enough for readers to care except to Valiant fans and this site. The don't generate buzz among readers, none their books are worth talking about. Not even the Book of Death stir up any reader buzz. Nobody noticed it except Valiant fans.

Yeah. Because that whole Book Of Death: Legends of the Geomancer limited release totally didn't set Reddit on fire with people complaining about it. The /r/Valiant subreddit has continued to grow slowly and steadily, with a constant stream of new members and new readers showing up and getting started with Valiant. VEI is taking it slow and steady, and I believe they'll be poised nicely for another burst of popularity and growth when the movies start coming out or even when more news about the movies starts getting released. CBR can put whatever socially aware, progressive, diverse comics it wants on it's top 100. VEI will keep doing what they do (putting out good stories and books) and it'll work out for the best in the end I bet.

Both of you make good points that reaffirms my ambivalent reaction and failure to see the need to get my under coverings in a knot over this. Valiant is doing fine. They're going to do no better than they would have if there was a book in 99th place. Not everyone is going to share our taste in comics.

I know what I'm about to say has been said, but this is not what is being complained about in this thread. I think most here are fine letting other people (critics, fans, whomever) like whatever they like. The point is when CBR reviews VEI books and consistently gives them higher marks than most of the books that make this list it is hard to understand why. It's like saying all year that VEI books are awesome and then at the end of the year saying that they changed their minds.

Which begs the question of why bother bringing up this thread about Valiant not making the list. Plenty of books didn't make the list.

Also wasn't East of West on the list last year?

True, but plenty other Image books did.

#100 - Superman: American Alien was only two issues in by the time that ranking went out. So they are saying those two issues were better than anything Valiant had put out in 2015.

Hey, you know what? Perhaps we could all just stop actually writing anything on the boards, all just sign in once a day to see that nothing's been written, and sign out again to go about our day. Why bother writing anything right?

Every single post you make on this board is always so *SQUEE* negative. I really don't understand why you even bother logging on anymore. Maybe it's to check the Valiant threads out in the hope that everyone else will have finally seen sense and realised that Valiant is no big deal and it's not interesting and stopped posting Valiant-related discussion on a Valiant-related forum.

Seriously, last I recall you'd basically stopped buying Valiant anyway, so why even bother with this place anymore?

And as for Valiant improving the art in their comics to match the standards of Marvel and DC - completely *SQUEE* redundant idiotic point.

You can't base quality OR popularity on what CBR writes an article about. I would be ASTOUNDED to find out that that the coverage that Valiant gets on "news" sites like CBR isn't bought and paid-for advertising.

One of the things i first noted when the new lines were published was exacly that, not that its a bad thing.
I also tend to find a huge chunk of reviewers like the sound of their own voice and/or want followers more than they like comics or what industry they are in, tend to whine a lot and so find it easier to enjoy what I enjoy and let you do the same :)
