i hope cray hates the summer event and finds some other message board to troll.
I'd appreciate people stop referring to me as a "troll". I haven't attacked anyone here personally. Although I admit I may have ridiculed some fans here, especially the collectors. I don't make personal attacks, nor do I waste my time searching for dirt on a poster. That tweet Ellis made is more a term of endearment to me now and I find it funny that it's still on the internet. It was a little joke between me and some old wildstorm posters that I no longer keep in touch with. I've got no qualms with Warren Ellis and continue to read his stuff.

Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

You called VEI trolls when it wasn't even close to accurate - but you can't take it yourself?cray_ws wrote:I guess you have me pegged. Well do you even know what that tweet was about? Re: Sales of all Valiant titles so far
So you don't think VEI is using it's collectivistic fanbase to pump out a half a dozen variants every month to troll for easy money? It's pretty obvious that it's easier for VEI to sell variants than actually more titles. So every week it's like 2-3 books but all them get 3-4 variants. It's easier money than if VEI were to try publishing 7 quality titles a week. Yes...they are trolling. It's not an insult aim at you or anyone. It's a fact. They are going for the easy money...that's trolling. It's not the internet version of trolling, but damn near close. It's more like fishing, except it's fish in a barrel.jeremycoe wrote:You called VEI trolls when it wasn't even close to accurate - but you can't take it yourself?cray_ws wrote:I guess you have me pegged. Look I hate that publishers rely on variants because it's not "publishing". It's nothing more selling ads. A variant isn't a comic book, nor is it a true collectors item. It's piece of advertising that you pay for. I know that this forum likes to justify it as a necessity for publishers, but that's simply not true. Sad that so many here think so. There was time when publishers never did variants and were perfectly healthy industry without them. Originally variants were incidental after-market comics, now they are completely manufactured and a direct market mechanism to spur short term wholesales.

Re: Sales of all Valiant titles so far
Are you posting this same thing on all the Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, Dark Horse, and Boom fan websites, or did you skip over all those larger variant publishers to bug the fans of a publisher with 1% of the market because that's where you think you can make the biggest impact?

Re: Sales of all Valiant titles so far
This is the internet. I don't know why you thought we'd be expecting a different definition? A "variant" as we are discussing is in fact a comic book. It may be a collector's item, whether or not it is depends on all sorts of factors. I don't really care about variants either way. If I want it I'll buy it. I realize not everyone feels the same way, but that's how I feel.cray_ws wrote:So you don't think VEI is using it's collectivistic fanbase to pump out a half a dozen variants every month to troll for easy money? Still, my point was you have no problem calling others names and get upset when you are called a name. That's a tad hypocritical in my opinion.

Don't bother getting into semantics with me just score points. It's not my fault you assume every definition is coddled to internet standards. I didn't call anyone names, nor do I really have an issue with that Warren Ellis tweet because it's old and doesn't mean what you and others are trying to use it as. It's being taken out of context deliberately so you can launch a personal attack. I know what a variant is and so do you. You don't care, but I do...that's the real difference and let it be just that.jeremycoe wrote:

Re: Sales of all Valiant titles so far
Maybe I'll do just that just so you don't feel like I'm picking on you. I used to post a lot in Wildstorm forums before they folded into DCU. I don't read Marvel titles anymore, but I do rant on CBR forums about glut and oversaturated market of spin-offs that Marvel is known to do. CBR and these forums are only ones I post on. Go ahead search my Cray_ws post on CBR and you'll see I rant about Marvel and DC all the time. But also go ahead and ignore all the little posts I make in regards to praising a book or creator for their work.greg wrote:Are you posting this same thing on all the Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, Dark Horse, and Boom fan websites, or did you skip over all those larger variant publishers to bug the fans of a publisher with 1% of the market because that's where you think you can make the biggest impact?
I do like Valiant, especially it's potential, but I absolutely despise their marketing tactics because I can't recommend their books to a new reader without feeling embarrassed by all their variants. I've literally had to explain to my young nephew to ignore the covers and just pick out one. He doesn't understand why there's 7 covers for the same book. He's not sure whether he should like them or feel jipped that there's 6 other copies with the same story. It's disappointing that as comic book reader that I have to explain the greed that is involved in this industry.
There was a time when publishers didn't do variants deliberately and the industry was healthy. It's sad that Valiant has a lack of confidence in their work that they need to resort to this tactic.
I've come to realize some of you on these boards don't understand my rationale or just don't care. I can't promise I won't stop complaining, but for this thread consider this my last post for this subject.

Amen!!! DK3 had a 1 in 500 variant, and I can remember Marvel doing 1 in 100 variants 7 or 8 years ago. True that Valiant has a smaller fan base as DC or Marvel, greg wrote:Are you posting this same thing on all the Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, Dark Horse, and Boom fan websites, or did you skip over all those larger variant publishers to bug the fans of a publisher with 1% of the market because that's where you think you can make the biggest impact?
but I think that Valiant understands their fans better than DC or Marvel do.

Re: Sales of all Valiant titles so far
Sadly I think I'm on the verge of quitting Valiant books just as quickly as I began only a few months ago. I'm going see how this summer event plays out, after that I'll make my decision. I hope the actual stories can hold my interest. I might just drastically cut back on their offerings.[/quote]
Buying variants if your decision, the main reason to buy a comic is because you like the story. If your a big fan who has money, then why not buy variants.

Why or what story(stories) are you finding that after only a few months after diving in aren't holding your attention?
