Divinity II #1 Discussion
Since I own multiple copies of the ComicsPro early release, I decided to take one of the less than mint copies and read the story.
Very please, the art, color, mood, character development, and potential for awesome are all there in spades. Simply a fantastic book that all but provides the promise of an outstanding series. I love it when a character has explained motivations, depth, and focus. We 100% get to know who Myshka is, as well as why she is.
Very excited for this title, and suspect that it will exceed reader expectations.

One of the most anticipated Valiant titles for me. Can't wait to pick this up. Glad to hear the positive review / impressions of the book.

Re: Divinity II #1 Discussion
I have the ComicsPro Edition as well. It was my first one, so I didn't realize that it was actually the whole first issue, until I decided to take a look inside, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I loved it, it's all about Myshka, pretty much her origin story. The whole creative team knocked it out the park, I don't want to spoil to much, but I kind of mentioned something that happens in this issue already in another thread (with spoiler tags of course) but I wanna wait until at least the day of release to really get into everything that transpires in this issue. Ah, I can't wait for Abram and Myshka to meet face to face, I'm already looking forward to #2.

Looking forward to the mini series. Hopefully a big hit for VEI, any guesses on print run for issue #1? 25k, maybe?

Retailers get them from the ComicsPro Event in Portland Oregon, then they end up on EBay. You can find all the VEI ComicsPro Editions, on EBay.

D'awwww! Myshka means mouse in Ukrainian - I'm assuming it's the same for Russian as well.
Mind you, according to google, Myshk translates to 'moss' in Albanian, so perhaps she's the first of her kind...

So, the third cosmonaut's name is Kazmir?
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
...
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
...
Let me take you there. Let me take you there.
-"Kashmir", Led Zeppelin (released 1975)

One of my lcs, was SOLD OUT, when I got there not to long ago.
With Valiant titles, this shop usually sells the variants for cover price, I'm not sure which ones they had, (I'll assume, at least the 1:10 & 1:20) so I lucked out* on that, (I did however, have Cover A, in my box) although I did snatch up the 1:10 for Bloodshot Reborn.
Luckily, one of my other lcs, has a set for sale.

Re: Divinity II #1 Discussion
Great opening issue for the new arc, an origin tale for Valentina. Really strong art throughout.
I'm curious as to how they're going to handle the Putin angle; that's a little fraught with peril for Kindt since his hands could be a little tied with regard to treatment.
Kazmir (and thank you Greg, love Zep) is another interesting cog in the machine. I'm going to assume he's not dead, that'd be a waste. But he has feelings for Myshka... and yet she ostensibly sacrificed him for the mission. So she views Abram as a deserter, and Kazmir will view her as an unrequited love that tried to kill him to save herself. And who knows how Abram will react to their renewed presence back on Earth.
This is gonna make one great movie someday.

Completely agree. What an amazing issue. Art was great. Story is fantastic. They left such a great tease at the end of this first issue. Simply better than anything the big two produce.jmatt wrote:

Just a bit surprised there hasn't been more discussion. I get that Bloodshot Reborn #12 and X-O #46 were very very good, but so was this. Valiant really killed it this week.

I think everyone has come to expect excellence out of this series after the first one.
I loved it and think its going to be intriguing as the story develops.

Re: Mishka and Kazmir...I don't know which I've heard more Kashmir or this...opening to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse...
Probably the latter, I recall Robert Plant's explanation of where the lyrics came from. Zeppelin is maybe my favorite band, Kashmir one of my favorite songs, though it's spelled different and is a place, I do wonder if it entered Matt Kindt's mind. As for "Mishka", it's in the issue, means little mouse in Russian.

...Abram Adams name is also no accident. We never know what creators are thinking unless they flat out tell us, sometimes they don't know themselves. But, there was a Black Russian who had a big impact on Peter the Great's Russia named Abram Gannibal, he called himself Hannibal. Peter the Great's Russia was Russia at it's most dominant. And of course Abram Adams includes Abraham and Adam in his name, modern folklore, Abraham the founder of monotheistic religion, Adam the first human.
...and Abram even has some parallels to Moses and Jesus. There are a couple of Batman stories that might top the list for me as far as great 20th century storytelling, along with perhaps Star Wars, A Clockwork Orange, Spartacus, V for Vendetta, The Great Gatsby, The Stranger. Divinity might turn out one of the best or at least one of my favorite for the 21st.

Good issue. Looking forward to where this is going, the inevitable conflict with Abram, and whether or not the third astronaught is dead or not.

I really don't see the point of keeping Kazmir around. Myska, is Abram's Joker, no need for the third wheel. Unless they were planning to have all three eventually, align themselves together. But then, who would even be able to oppose that tandem, that would be overkill....
