Books in the last week? I heard of 4 9.9s and 2 books that were slabbed 9.2 and cracked open pressed to 9.8 in the last week. This is the same week that they've told me that basically everything is on hold and very few books are being shipped. Just seems a little odd.

Called to ask about grades today and they tried but said that it's Quality Control that is 2 weeks behind and they will not have access to the grades until they reach quality control and that department enters them.eschnit wrote:Would they tell you your grades? I've caught a couple of good reps there, but there was one who let me know my books were graded three weeks ago as of Friday, but they couldn't release the grades yet, and to follow up in about 3 weeks to see if they'd release the grades at that point, then laughed. They're not on the census. I've been in sales my whole adult life. It was top 5 worst interactions I've had with a service rep. Fortunately for them, the previous ones were very good and helpful, and they're the only game in town. In thinking of the dollars profit they likely make or don't make may be the better way to put it, I get why my expectations aren't met. They have to have miniscule profits. It's just a small company trying to make a buck.
...and I'll clarify, I've sent in 62 books recently, it's not that it doesn't cost us a penny to get it done, just the money they make after netting out can't be all that much.

Here are some pics of the waviness problem from the CGC board: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ub ... &fpart=561" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Yikes, that last Deadpool looks awful. The waviness may develop several weeks AFTER, so for those who recently got slabs back, check your books again. CGC may fix and re-holder in some instances but will be same waviness problem come back in a few weeks? And they "fix" by pressing the comics, I guess? What if pressing damages certain sensitive books (like what DBS demonstrated with his past pressing/submissions)?

Re: CGC seems to be having very serious issues...
Has anyone cracked open any of these slabs to see if the waviness is actually a persisting issue?
I could see it just being a result of there NOT being pressure applied to the book (top and bottom) inside the well except from the sides so that it slightly bunches up.
I can also see it being the same thing from there just not being (top and bottom) pressure and a book showing it's natural state.
Someone needs to do an test and analysis!

Yes. In the youtube link above, a couple of slabs were cracked and the waviness is still there. They claim the book was initially flat, then waviness developed in a couple of weeks, then cracked the slab and comic is still wavy.Aram wrote:Has anyone cracked open any of these slabs to see if the waviness is actually a persisting issue?

That DD #181 CGC 9.8 in the video (6:43 mark) is even worse than the Deadpool pic above.

My question to you guys. If my newly cgc'd comic is doing the wave and I send it back does cgc pay shipping?
I Miss the good old days.

Re: CGC seems to be having very serious issues...
I think some people said CGC will pay for shipping both ways. My greater concern would be how CGC is fixing the problem, if the "fixing" will damage the book, and if waviness will come back in a couple of weeks after it has been fixed.nonplayer wrote:My question to you guys. So wait..
what I'm getting is that NEWTON RINGS = LIKELY GOOD SLAB, not likely to cause as damage or at least not as much..
And NO Newton Rings = BAD SLAB, LIKELY to cause damage??

That video makes an incredibly compelling case (pun intended) that the new CGC cases are damaging books. I have quite a few now, and I'm concerned. I have a few hundred books sitting at CGC right now.

Can CGC hold your books or send them back until the new case problem has been fixed?nycjadie wrote:That video makes an incredibly compelling case (pun intended) that the new CGC cases are damaging books. I have quite a few now, and I'm concerned. I have a few hundred books sitting at CGC right now.

Re: CGC seems to be having very serious issues...
I don't submit books to CGC myself and have mostly pre-Unity books (old cases). Personally I am holding off on buying any comics with the new cases until they figure out what's going on.

Punch in newton ring in Google read wiki it's not on the book it's between the mylar sheet and the inner case touching. Push two cd's together with your fingers your fingers don't get oily or ringishAram wrote:watching the video now in spurts at work when no one is around, lol..

The Preacher #1 CGC 9.6 at 5:20 mark . . . no way that's a 9.6 anymore.nonplayer wrote:I just clicked on the link and it says video not there did it get taken down did cgc make the person. Does the link work for you??iggy101us wrote:youtube video by CGC member:

Agreed. I didn't watch all the non-unslabbed examples, but there were a few there where I was like, "Wow!"iggy101us wrote:The Preacher #1 CGC 9.6 at 5:20 mark . . . no way that's a 9.6 anymore.nonplayer wrote:I just clicked on the link and it says video not there did it get taken down did cgc make the person. I never did buy into the new slabs. There were a few adjustments I liked, but they were cosmetic and were largely limited to the label. This doesn't make me happy. Thankfully, I don't have anything worth $400+ in the new slabs like many of these examples.

I'm not a cgcer, but have been considering getting into the game by getting some of my books slabbed.
But. Wow. No way! The waves are terrible. Terrible.
This seems bad bad bad for the industry and good good good for the books in the old cases.
