Re: David Lapham Project???
This sounds great too, I am in on some of the printed comics (The art will be out of my budget, but I would like a few of the comics for sure at the $6-10 price point). Thanks for doing this and getting JayJay involved as well
Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?

This is no easy task, that's all I am saying. We are going to have to buy him off plus pay for JJ's color.
I expect all you big guys to stand up and contribute... I don't know where it's going but it will be a seminal event.

Re: David Lapham Project???
I would like to publish "Harbinger #1/2" which picks up after Harb #0 and is before Harb #1.
It will be a comic book and I will choose a heavy stock cover.
It will be written by JS with art by DL and a color cover by JJ.
It will be an 8 page story plus cover. Written by Shooter.
There will also be interviews and goodies in it.
I plan on a minimum of 500 copies and once again it's the big boys who get the books to recieve the art at a premium but also get copies to sell or slab.
I intend this to be a VH1 story with authentic staff making it so.
I desperately need feedback as once again I can't do it all alone as far as planning... I need input.
If you guys are up for the unbelievably incredible, we can make this happen!
That is my goal, what are your thoughts?

Re: David Lapham Project???
Before getting too far ahead . . . if it's going to be in comic book form and part of VH1 continuity, does VEI need to bless this? I understand it's a non-profit fan project but I think VEI had to bless the Unity 2000 #4-6 project as well (though the project sadly was never completed).

Re: David Lapham Project???
I don't worry about those things.
And legally, one way or another I have a foothold on this project.
Stopping me is stopping a non-profit project that brings together the original staff... something they could have done years ago.
And BTW- I don't fear cease and desist orders... I dare them to stop this fan project that is too long in the making!

I'd be interested, but not if it doesn't have VEI's approval.

Where is the line between fan project and *SQUEE* off VEI then? I don't accept "nothing" as an answer.
Should we go back to sketches???

Re: David Lapham Project???
I have to agree completely that this should not be done without VEI's approval. The concept would clearly infringe on Valiant's IP otherwise and just being non-profit absolutely does not make it legal.
Such an endeavor would go beyond a simple cease and desist and your comments could make you personally liable for civil damages and potential lost revenue to VEI.
This is a great Idea but should probably be done in cooperation with Valiant with them actually publishing it and any profits agreed to go to charity, perhaps agreeing with VEI to securing funding for all development and printing costs first through a kickstarter campain, with copyright and reprint rights belonging to VEI, then VEI would have nothing to lose.
Dinesh is very supportive of fan projects, but I am fairly certain something like this which so many people would love to see would require finesse.
Generally these things need Gregs approval as well when using these forums to gather support.
Solar, turok or magnus.. Slightly different story..

Re: David Lapham Project???
You could always just ask them. I don't think it'd be a concern if we were talking about a sketchbook. When you start talking about a full story, I think that crosses the line.Knob Row wrote:Where is the line between fan project and *SQUEE* off VEI then? I don't accept "nothing" as an answer.

Re: David Lapham Project???
I still think that we can come up with something that is totally awesome within the rules laid out. I could be way out with this one too but .....
I do like the sketch book idea. Maybe a DL & JJ sketch book with a Harbinger theme that includes a matching fan script by Shooter. We could do different levels of involvement depending on what people are looking for .... maybe some users only would like a signed sketch book and script , maybe some would like a DL or JJ sketch with their signed book & script and finally the art collectors could purchase the actual original DL & JJ sketch book artwork itself. Maybe even the Shooter script too.

I missed out on the Jim Shooter Project, but would be down for something like this for Lapham for sure (especially if you do what say above). I will keep an eye on this thread for updates.
