Best way to sell CGC9.8 BloodShot #0 Platinum Error Variant?

Post by iopollycron »

Hi all, I'm hoping to hear from the Valiant experts. I Bought a CGC slabbed 9.8 of the super ultra rare Bloodshot #0 Platinum Printing Error Cover. It's super sweet and by far the pride of my entire comic book collection. Unfortunately I need to sell to cover some pressing medical bills. My question is: from the experts point of view, what's the best way to try and sell this? I got lucky and bought it through Ebay in 2008 but don't think that's a good venue for a comic like this. I really really don't want to sell it and I'll probably cry when I do, lol.

I also have a Harbinger #0 CGC 9.8 Valiant Mail Away Pink Variant up for auction right now:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/152332237746?ss ... 1555.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for your advice!

You could list it here on the VF Forums. Either one of us might buy it, or we KNOW someone who will.

Ebay is the best bet with massive books like this. the fees suck, but it is no doubt the place with the most eyes.

DBS is correct you can for sure get a buyer here. But with medical bills involved, I'd need TOP dollar.

BUT if you do not want to do ebay (and I can for sure understand that), I'd PM DBS. He be the 1st person I'd contact with a book like this.

Im sorry about your lady. If you don't want to do ebay, seriously, pm DBS. We had a big sale in the past. and he was 100% great to deal with, and if he is not interested (which would be shocking) he will know who is.

Hi, welcome and hope all works out. You've already had good advice on the platinum. For the Harbinger I wonder if you could consider international shipping?

@ Elveen, I will try and post pics of the Bloodshot here tonight for those that might be interested.

@ Magnusr, I'm willing to consider international shipping on the Harbinger #0 for anyone that contacts me :)

I might be interested in an off eBay sale. Sorry to hear about your wife. I've been there. Family is everything to me. I've sold my entire comic collection twice for family. It's always fun to build it back up though.

I hope you understand the way in which I mean what I write below, it's not meant to be personal or to be mean, but this is a community of good friends and someone should mention it.

To everyone contacting right now about these books, I urge you to be very careful. This is a super rare book, and is pretty expensive so I would be very wary of someone's first post being "I gotta sell this expensive item to pay bills". I am not sure if I would send this type of money to someone I had ZERO clue about.

If you can work it out in a way that is transparent and real, good luck with the sale and the purchase and it's a holy grail type of item. That's what worries me the most. Specially with international shipping where you lose ALL protections.

I'd say post it as an auction here. Lots of folks (as already demonstrated) are interested. Me included.

I've never used Comic Link, but I know about it. The UI and UX are pretty awful, and they never have anything I'm looking for, so I rarely visit, if at all.

I've heard of more and more people going there (big collection locally looking to end up there), not sure what the appeal is but it may give ebay and the others a run for their money.

IMHO, eBay brings a wider audience/prospective buyers. What's detracting, the seller fees?

Comiclink actually handles the book... actually does the shipping, so bidders are guaranteed to get the book.

Bidders may not trust a new/inexperienced seller on Ebay to actually send a high dollar book and may bid lower out of fear.

Thanks Greg, I hadn't considered the trust factor as a component. Guess I've been pretty lucky, and have relied on the PayPal protection.

I've never purchased or sold anything through Comiclink. Having them manage a verified item and handle shipping sounds like a nice, reliable service.

I've bought and sold on Comiclink. They get 10% of a sale price, similar to Ebay, but they receive the the book and send it to the buyer, so there's both a confidence and confidential aspect.

It's pretty clear that some buyers and sellers, particularly for high priced books, really appreciate confidentiality. Ebay does an OK job of masking bidder identity, but Comiclink completely hides both buyer and seller.

Ebay's bidder protection is probably fine, but I wouldn't buy a very expensive book on Ebay from a seller without a good history of selling a similar level of books. I have bid more and spent more for individual books on Comiclink and Heritage than Ebay because I knew a "trusted middleman" would handle the book first.

Even some (not necessarily high dollar) books I've sold on this board have been confidential from a private message rather than a public "I'll take it" post because the buyer didn't want any public announcement.

do you know if the bidder has to pay the 10%? or pay taxes on the final bid?
