Book of Death still the active timeline?

Post by Nairbe »

As the subject states, are we still in the active Book of Death timeline? I know when the book came out there was a lot of firm talk that they are the events of the future (Rai #0'ish).

But doesn't Tama being in our timeline (as the sole Geomancer) change all that (or isn't she working to change it)?

The whole major death thing in Harbinger #5 got me thinking about it again. It seems a lot of people (myself included) believe our beloved Major Palmer may die. But in BoD #1 it looks like he dies with a number of H.A.R.D Corps members, but at a later time (I understand that the panels may not be in order, but it sounds like it occurs after a major H.A.R.D Corps mobilizaion). This could all still happen in Harbinger Renegade #5, but it would feel VERY rushed.

So if not Palmer, who's going to die? If BoD is the timeline then it can't be any of the Renegades or Harada. Out of the list mentioned to appear in the book it really only leaves Generation Zero (SUCH wasted potential) and the Imperium team. Neither group has a "major" character in my opinion (they both have some interesting and good characters, but none critical to the Valiant Universe). At least not in the way Valiant seems to be pushing this.

I really hope this isn't going to be a case of over-hype or worse a disappointing issue.

Many people believe the BoD events have either been prevented or are changeable, where as the BoD one-shots are cannon.

That's the view I'm going with. BoD main series also showed Master Darque conquering the Earth and Deadside for all Eternity, and we know that doesn't happen.

It will be interesting to see if the Rai History one shot clears up or muddles the discussion further.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

Don't forget about Tama and Rapture. In the preview she can already be seen mentioning the Book of the Geomancer and how it is "always prophesizing doom and gloom" and in the following she doesn't really act like it's bothering her much.

The events of the main Book of Death mini-series have been prevented for sure. In the end the boy surrenders his power to Tama and returns to his normal life. Not sure what this means for the BoD one-shots and for Tama in the far future she was sent back from (by Gilad)? :hm:

Major Palmer. I wouldn't consider him a major Valiant hero but it's most likely him on Monika Palosz' line-wide incentive cover and he doesn't look much alive anymore.

Book of death was definitely stopped. As such those futures are questionable depending on what the writers want to do. Time could force those events to still happen just with different things leading to it, or it could just be one of many timelines connected in the universe. Every thing after Unity was supposed to be fixed but then we had Acclaim and that buggered things up good. That could be a major event on all its own in the future...

my personal thoughts are that everything in the future we saw is still canon EXCEPT for the scenes with the whole squad with roku, gilad, e.t.c. fighting darque on the demolished city. we will know for sure when we see who dies in renegades #5 though, if it contradicts fall of harbinger then i guess book of death isnt canon

That was Iron Man's fault.

It's a little annoying that we don't really know the answer to this question. I hope they come up with an interesting way to give us the answer.

Me too, but my feeling is that it'll probably be answered over a very long real-time period, and only in dribs and drabs at that as contradictions to the BoD prophecies appear here and there...

It's like Tama said at the end she "cannot be certain how much of the future recorded in these pages has been averted, nor how much will still come to pass." Only time will tell. I find it interesting though that the stories in the one-shots don't have anything to do with the doom and "dark future" being foretold in the beginning of the main BoD series.

In Fall of Bloodshot Ray mentions a lot of events but none has to do with Darque.
In Fall of Ninjak what will be left of Leeds and England (in 100 years from now) is the result of the 2nd Armor Hunters War.
In Fall of Harbinger everything's still about Peter and Harada and the Bleeding Monk (in a nutshell). No mention of any doom that Darque has brought to Earth. Interestingly, this is the only of the four one-shots that doesn't even mention Tama and the Book of the Geomancer on the first index/summary page.
In Fall of XO the future of the Visigoth's kingdom (in Nebraska) doesn't look too bad either.

None of these futures is (or will be) a result of Darque's doing or not-doing!
