Question about the new X-O run

Post by EarthToneKing »

Loving the new X-O run but also really enjoyed Vendietti's first 50 issues. Quick question, X-O #50 ended with Aric gaining the knowledge of the cosmos from the Torment. Fast forward to a year later and he's on planet Gorin and has abandoned Earth. Does he still have his god-like knowledge? Are they ever going to reveal what happened to Aric in the past year?

Everything's eventual. I think yes they will, and yes he still has that knowledge. They eluded to it in the last issue, about how his mind would crack, without the assistance of the suit.

I'm wondering if the armor (Shanhara) also has the knowledge from the Torment. Perhaps the information revealed by the Torment is the reason that Aric is angry and that Shanhara seems to be "treading lightly".

Shanhara wrote:"You have seen alien races. You have battled beasts beyond your wildest imagination. You understand the languages of ten different species, none of them human..."
Just re-reading #5 and this quote does make it seem like Shanhara is taking all the credit for keeping his mind intact. With The Torment, they offered more than just ten different alien languages, right? It's like Shanhara is saying "without me, there would be no you", yet not referencing The Torment at all....

The biggest note I can offer against my own argument, is that in the flash back image, you see The Vine, and I do believe The Armor Hunters along with everyone else. So maybe The Torment only offered 10 different alien languages, or maybe that is all there are out there?

I'm wondering if Shanhara is trying to remind him of what all she did for him before the Torment gave him all that knowledge... to remind him that she was valuable before he found out... whatever he found out.

If it wasn't for Shanhara Aric and the Visigoths would still be slaves or already dead!

There is something there, maybe some fine note we are missing. They really haven't connected The Torment to this series, and have left a great deal open. It almost has to be something they both learned from the Torment that is putting Aric off of Shanhara, especially if we are to believe this took place only 1 year after the end of the last XO.

I really thought Shanhara would go into depth regarding "his child/daughter", as almost a sucker move. Guess she is saving that one for a later date?

I'm grateful for issue #5's flashback splash page because it helped establish that the events from Venditti's run actually happened. For a minute there I thought they wouldn't reference it at all. I believe that something within the Torment's knowledge made Aric want to retire.

Or... food for thought... could it have been the actions of what happened after Divinity III Stallenverse? He was pretty severely handled during that book. I know mini's like that series have less of an affect on the real Valiant Universe, but maybe that triggered him to say enough of this Earth crap, I'm leaving. Now, couple that with The Torment, and we may be onto something

I was flipping through X-O #50 yesterday. At the very end, it has a short sequence, set in the near future, with Aric on the throne on Gorin. It is written by Matt Kindt with art by Tomas Giorello.

This current volume was in the works before Venditti's run even came to an end. There is definitely a throughline of continuity.

Based on the heated argument at the end of this issue I'd say we'll get a few more hints (and flashbacks) in the upcoming issues and in the interlude issue (#10) there'll be the big reveal (perhaps including the crashed Psi-Lords ship thing)?

Yesterday I was flipping through XO #50, too. I was more interested in re-reading the short story featuring Neela. I bet she will ask Aric for returning that favor in Faith and the Future Force.

We don't know when and how. It was hinted in the extra material of the pre-order edition of XO 2017 #1 that the Cadmiums' walled city and palace was built around a crashed (giant) Psi-Lords ship. XO 2017 #10 will be out in December. The Psi-Lords teaser in this year's FCBD issue states "Psi-Lords - the search will begin this winter!"

That was because he had to serve the Soviet Union just like he had to serve MERO/GATE to keep his people "safe." Anyhow, with Aric gone for a while now and the Stalinverse being set between the end of XO #50 and XO 2017, I'm curious whether Divinity and XO will be seen together in Divinity #0? Perhaps another clue?

I'm not quite sure it will. Eternity isn't an ongoing, so it would be tough to put him in there, unless he is a large part of the story. Maybe a few panels? I think, as far as others involved in Eternity, we will see a good deal of Ninjak, as we always do (especially in the first book). I think there is a possible bro-mance between Ninjak and Divinity. Aric on the other hand, maybe not so much

Ok... a few points to remember or think about....
1. Aric will be back on earth to fight Harada in Harbinger Wars 2. If the promo ads stay true.
2. The current X-O series is only scheduled for 12 issues, from what I believe was first announced, but this may (and I hope) has been changed.
3. The Aric at the start of volume 4 is not the same Aric in X-O 50. He is beaten, scared, and content to live life out on a farm. (Granted with a hot blue woman with a tail). This is not the Aric at the start or end vol 3, a man that wants to be king. Which leads to .....
4. The real question is not where he is but when. He may have time traveled to the pass to set up some chain of events that leads to something that completes a loop. Maybe he will cause the bone plague that starts the creation of the X-O armor. We can run wild guessing the reasons.
5. He is unable to reach or communicate with Saana. This leads me to the time difference. The VEI Aric is an honorable monogamous man. (I personally like the VH1 Aric that was down for a threesome in New Orleans, but that's just me) So, the only thing that could keep our hero like him away from his second love of his life, and lay with lady blue is time.
6. We have to prepare for the fact that this series may end with Aric still away and not returning to earth, or at least not the time we believe he would return.
7. The armor is a real wet blanket this series. Somebody get the armor a drink. Most powerful intelligent weapon in the cosmos, but no one is calling it on its birthday, lol.
8. What's up on New Loam. I just miss the Spider Aliens.

Just some thoughts....
I'm enjoying the new series.

And the Psi-Lords are from the far future yet their spaceship had already crashed on Gorin before Aric set foot on the planet. :thumb:

EDIT: We do know where but not when... and it's definitely not just 1 year after XO #50.

1) More than just the promo adds, Kindt has already said so.
2) The current series has the first 12 books already ready for print. This was stated at the start of the series, as Kindt had already written the first year.
3) This is exactly what we are speculating, what caused Aric to act the way he is acting.
4) No time travel, the going time difference is one year after XO-50. Nothing has been stated, but it is what the common belief is.
5) He left Earth, thinking it's obvious he did not want to contact earth, he simply doesn't care. He is angry about something, and this too is what we are debating. He is NOT an honorable monogamous man, or he wouldn't be sleeping with a blue alien, regardless of hotness, lol.
6) HW2 pictures show him back on earth. There has been art associating a battle with him and Peter. Also, there was just another release from the HW Dossier showing him back on earth. Still speculative, I know
7) Wet blanket? I so disagree here! She is the primary baseline for Aric, trying to help him get over whatever problem he had with Earth. Basically, she is his glue, his beckoning to come back to reality.

For all we know, Shanhara did something that ended up killing Saana, which would be why he's angry and how Aric can be both monogamous and sleeping with a blue alien. :idontknow:

Even more reasonable would be that Aric did something that ended up killing Saana while wearing Shanhara, and he blames Shanhara for not stopping him... and he hates himself... and he hates the idea of wearing Shanhara again... and he needs the blue alien distraction and to just be a farmer and try to suppress it all.

But the statement about a daughter/child....
In the Valiant universe the technology probably exists to save/incubate a very premature child if the mother is killed... especially if Shanhara "rescued" the daughter but didn't tell Aric.

:hm: :hm:

But the statement about a daughter/child....
In the Valiant universe the technology probably exists to save/incubate a very premature child if the mother is killed... especially if Shanhara "rescued" the daughter but didn't tell Aric.
This means Gamete could still be alive, too? :hm:
Maybe, but if Shanhara is the technology that actually saved the child, then Shanhara would need to be there for Gamete (and Gamete would need not to be mortally wounded.)
