I doubt the GK3 come back.Captain Craig wrote:Worst thread title ever for such a big topic. It needs to be changed to reflect what the thread is about.
I hope this is not a repeat of Acclaim.
I hope since they are throwing cash around they outright purchase the Gold Key 3 and reincorporate them back into the VU.
Time to wait and see.
I do hope, though, that the UNITY crossover is reprinted in hardcover as Dinesh seemed to tease.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
I really get the vibe that we are going to lose all that proximity they made sure they had with their fans. Not that I was particularly getting anything out of it since im a fairly new fan and never had the chance to go to any valiant booth.
Still.. I found it really beautiful to see people post comic-con or not pictures with either Dino himself or whatever artists. I felt like he made sure that they were as accessible as possible to the fans and that a genuine vibe of brotherhood could be felt.
I was actually really excited to go see them at next Montreal ComicCon, but now.. I guess "mixed feeling" is what i feel like. Anyhow.. I am thankful that i have been able to be around the time Dinesh was a CEO because you could truly feel the guy was/still is.. A great leader and a great man

Re: VALIANT SOLD
I would tend to agree. Dino was a fan himself—a member of this very forum—before purchasing the IPs at auction. The fan-centric nature of the company has definitely been an extension of him and is unlikely to continue. Gone again is the last of the great independently owned shared universes...BigRedSofa wrote:I really get the vibe that we are going to lose all that proximity they made sure they had with their fans. The worry is that whomever buys will push out the team that made Valiant into the company that it is. That's fairly standard. Without the guiding hand of Dinesh, who's to keep the quality up? Will they pump out more books? Alter the quality of writing? Will it be turned into yet another super hero franchise with Mary Janes? I will remain optimistic, but if you take away Dinesh, I don't have high hopes.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
VALIANT SOLD - much better, well done.
As Valiant fans, especially the OG ones, we've been through this before and it didn't end well. It's not like an EIC at Marvel or DC stepping down after decades of publishing. Every time Valiant starts to emerge, or in this case re-emerge, as a power it gets sold. Last time the Acclaim focus was on video games. This new guy, Mintz, is solely focused on movies. Pushing Dino out probably is a necessary evil of these type of transactions but a smart man would find a way to make it work.
Valiant as a publishing entity should continue to want to add to its market share. Growing the characters on all fronts should be a priority, not just focusing on movies while the publishing becomes an ignored white noise to operations.
I do not blame Dino and Co. for selling. As fans who went on a limb to purchase the IPs and re-start Valiant they took a huge gamble. Cashing out and turning a profit is kudos to them. I just wish they could've found a way to still be on board after the merge/purchase.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
I realize at this point we're all freaking out to the smallest amount of information. I agree, what Mintz has said isn't reassuring to the fans, and does smack of Acclaim. If they are going to continue to publish comics then I don't understand why you wouldn't want Dinesh steering that boat. Valiant has been his baby since the get. To replace him with someone that isn't invested just creates another Marvel situation. As good as the movies are the comics have gone down the toilet and just serve as adverts for the movies. I hope that isn't the case because I haven't read a Marvel comic in 2 years.
It would be really great for us hardcore OG fans is Dinesh would address the situation, maybe here where he can be a bit more candid than in an official press release to the comics news sites.
Not to be dramatic, but part of me feels like crying. A big sweaty 40 year old crying nerd. Valiant's the last publisher with heart.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
RAMPANT SPECULATION WARNING:
The news states that Dino is "transitioning out of the company". It doesn't say he was canned by DMG specifically. That means one of two things likely happened:
1. Dino was asked to leave to allow DMG to push their own agenda with a new CEO (or let Mintz fill that role). This would be bad, because it means that they didn't like what Dino was doing and therefore are going to "do things differently".
2. Dino was not asked to leave, but after hearing what DMG's plans were for the company he decided he couldn't live with what they are planning on doing to his passion project. This would also be bad.
I'm sure there are other possibilities for why he is "transitioning out of the company", but I can't think of any that make me feel good about the future direction of VEI.

Some of you guys know Dino a bit better, but would you think he'd start his own line of comics or was he Valiant or bust.
I'd follow him elsewhere if he wanted to try his own universe.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
Been reading up on Dan Mintz, the CEO and founder of DMG. It looks like his main focus for the past decade plus has been trying to tap into the Chinese market. Nothing wrong with that, there is a lot of money to be made there. From what I've read it seems like that is his ONLY focus. I'm feeling Valiant is going to be turned into something it isn't, Whatever the case, I don't get the feeling that Valiant's publishing arm is being looked after. I'm a comics first guy. Movies come and go. I just get the feeling Valiant has once again been reduced to dollar signs.

a consultant for now..to appease really the og fans..
Not to minimize the experience, but a consultant isn't usually very valued, however they may provide some useful information but that is about it..
dang this is acclaim 2.0 for sure...
dude had like 10 years to do it right...
but, ending up just making same old same old comics..
more power to him, hope he's okay in life...
NOW BRING BACK SHOOTER...

VALIANT SOLD
Fred & Warren still head of publishing. Movies certain.
If only these announcements, we would all be quite pleased.
As of now Dinesh is still on board. I will not judge the announcement negatively until Dinesh shares his point-of-view here.
Heiserer writes screenplays. Isn’t it natural that Valiant would want a “comic writer” writing for their movies and hasn’t VEI already said this with regards to Eric many times?
Isn’t it possible that Lemire and Kindt have hung around so that they get a chance at writing for a sci-if comic blockbuster movie, and that that has been consistent with the hopes and dreams of Dinesh, Jeff, and Matt all along?
Dare to be open to this being a very positive announcement.

So Valiant publishing will probably be dried up by 2022 with bad to mediocre stores from 2020-2022.onearmedwampa3000 wrote:Been reading up on Dan Mintz, the CEO and founder of DMG. 2019 is a transition year and probably the last best year of stories we might get.
Looks like my hold box will see some trimming once Acclaim 2.0 has concluded ruining things with short sightedness.

Late last night Dinesh tweeted:
"Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory." - Jim Shooter, 1992
Didn't know it was related to the sale at the time, but it sounded foreboding. In retrospect, it would appear Dino was not thrilled with this move, just as Shooter was not thrilled with the Acclaim sale. VEI was Dino's baby, and I'm sure he will do everything in his power to keep things going as he "transitions" out of his position, but the VALIANT we have known for 6 years is surely going to change.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
Gut punch. Unless their first movie is the next Iron Man, expect things to go south, Acclaim style, quickly. How many of the folks that make Valiant, Valiant, stay with Dinesh gone and corporate movie folks pushing comic story lines. Bloodshoot looking like Vin D in the comics is the least of my worries. I’m hoping HW2 remains unscathed as a final swan song for Dinesh. I remember hearing his OTV interview, and how excited and pationate he was about this story line.

Re: VALIANT SOLD
From my perspective, as a longtime Valiant fan, this opens the door for the books to be how they originally should have been, there were too many holes too many editorial snafus, too many reboots, and generally not very intellectual, just same old same old... so hopefully when they do the universe relaunch in about 6 to 12 months, they can bring shooter back on, and David Lapham and some of the old school guys and really step up the quality of Storytelling in addition to the modernization of the comic book itself... they missed the boat on what made the original Valiant great and stick out and it was the depth of Storytelling the tight continuity, and so many other things that were neglected in this new startup
