BLOODSHOT: RISING SPIRIT #1 Glass Cover Variant

Post by Mr_Taco »

Will this cover be worth chasing for?
It looks like it's going to be fragile even to ship...

Two thoughts:

1 - MASSIVE WARNING!!!!!!
This cover is a no limit order for stores. That means they can order as many as they want as long as they qualify for them. This book is likely to be returnable so stores can order as many copies as they want, qualify for as many glass variants (its so stupid but i'll get to that below) as they want to sell and return the regular covers. Dinesh and Atom! would never have let this happen. Remember all those "1 per store" limits on the metal covers? That's what spread the regular copies around, gave a new series legs to become a hit and kept the back issue prices of the metal covers high (to this day). What Chinese Valiant (I'm gonna start calling them that) are doing is boosting the orders for issue one by breaking variants. It's very sad to see how cheap their tactics are. No thought for the fans paying the money. I intend to ask my store to order 2500 copies and then return them but keep the glass covers.

2 - This variant is stupid
Come on people, glass??? facepalm Why? At least with all the previous gimmicks Dinesh and Hunter made sure to have a story point involved.
QR - hear your fave character talk for the first time. Let them literally add to the story
Chromium - Resembles armor and used on Armor Hunters
Metal - Used on X-O Manowar who has a metal suit, Bloodshot who has metal in his veins and Ninjak who uses metal weapons (i'm not counting Shadowman which Chinese Valiant added a metal cover for because they're stupid)
But glass? What do Bloodshot and glass have to do with each other? And what collector in the world thinks "Glass...cool!" It's like whoever was left at Valiant after all the brains left sat around a table and said what would Dinesh and Hunter do? Um, I dunno maybe we can copy metal...hmm, paper? Been done. Air? Can't print on it. Glass? Bingo!

This is stupid. Agreed. Glass is stupid. Will I get one? Maybe. I'm not sure. I'm not really getting the high end variants anymore. I did get the metal covers, but I'm kind of tapped out, and this is dumb. Don't drop that short box!

With that said, the price on these should drop considerably. Why wouldn't any comic shop do exactly this? That first issue has always been returnable, cash back. Get 20 of them and try and sell them for $50 each. Now, you've made a good deal of money and all you have to do is tear off the top cover and return them and you can get your money back.

Gonna take a solid hold and look, just to see how many hit the market. If the variant is overly fragile, or if the money for investment isn't there (which it doesn't look like it will be), then it'll be a no-go for me as well.

Me too. I like glass art, and I like Braithwaite’s work. What’s not to like, besides maybe the price?

I'd rather pay $ on some original Bloodshot comic artwork rather than invest in this gimmick.

Here's a thought for Valiant: rather than try to make a GLASS cover, how about you focus on hyping your titles

I don't need hype. Just good books.

I need something to get me excited. Talk about the titles on social media instead of other publisher's books.

I don't need a glass cover on a 32pg comic.

I'm sure there are people out there who would love to grab this, I've no problem with people who are into this stuff. I would've thought Valiant would have better priorities to focus their efforts from a marketing standpoint.

How about Write some good stories. The only reason Ive not dropped valiant completely is child hood nostalgia for titles I collect since ai was young. Ie Xo manowar.
Bloodshot ive followed since 2012 and 2 titles is better than 1. Id drop hw2 if I could but its almost over so I dont count it.
That said .
Until I get stories that are good captivating with good art right now nearly 5.00 a issue Im not happy and wont be investing in gimics, Variants and carp.
At this point valiant owes me more than I feel loyal to them.
I Miss the good old days.
