The Most Abused Fans In Comics
Are we the most abused fans in comics?

I agree with some points, I disagree with some other points. Looks like at least the Resurgence of the Valiant Universe is getting some attention in the comics community and starting discussion that is non-political this time, so that's mostly a good thing.

Well, he starts out by getting some facts wrong, like saying that Acclaim fired Shooter.

- Especially "dude." And "balls." Those terms work in the tech industry.

I watched half of it. It pretty much summed up my feelings in a more eloquent way than I could have said it.
No need for a multiverse approach. It’s not old or overdone enough. Doesn’t need to get dark. Or light.
Perhaps a new era is approaching.
V1
Acclaim
VEI
DMG
Alien
Beyond

He makes some good points.
Especially that it sounds like they're trying to please everyone with this approach but it doesn't make sense. Energon, Ultimate, and Absolute are three totally different approaches to a reboot/relaunch.
The biggest thing he hits on is how can the same people who have been directing the comics for the last several years be trusted by the fans who haven't liked what's come out since DMG?
I guess if you like all the post-DMG comics this should be good news.
Does no one remember that they already used the Valiant Beyond event name in 2018? Seriously

The most abused fans in comics are the ones that foolishly get into a conversation with MOTA lolThe Harbinger wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 10:24 am Are we the most abused fans in comics?

I'm tempering expectations, but as a heavy critic of the DMG/Antos era, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear there is at least a focus on retaining the old fans moving forward vs "adapting" to modern audiences.Ryan wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 8:10 pm He makes some good points.

In the professional world, this is as close we're going to get to bowing down to the loyal readers and asking for forgiveness. Maybe we'll get some of the same actions in DC and Marvel as well for all the issues they created in the industry.
It would've been nice for Valiant to do all this before nearly destroying every brand and creating people cheering for your demise like G4, but hey, I'll keep an open mind and buy the first wave of stuff to see how it is.

Fair enough, we all want them to succeed, we just need to see something and the last 6 years have been pretty bleak. The Harbinger wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:55 amI'm tempering expectations, but as a heavy critic of the DMG/Antos era, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear there is at least a focus on retaining the old fans moving forward vs "adapting" to modern audiences.Ryan wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 8:10 pm He makes some good points.

I still find it weird or negligent to re-use the same event name. I guess the first one was such a dud, even they don't remember?

Since we're already in the Valiant Beyond era, shouldn't this one be called Valiant Beyond Beyond? Or maybe Valiant Beyond II: Even Beyonder?

Jim Shooter co-created the Beyonder. Maybe it's a teaser that Shooter is coming back.Ryan wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2024 3:22 pm Since we're already in the Valiant Beyond era, shouldn't this one be called Valiant Beyond Beyond? Or maybe Valiant Beyond II: Even Beyonder?
