Valiant comics - creator credits

Post by iggy101us »

Is my memory going bad or was there creator info per issue on this site? I thought it was in the price guide or something . . . where when you click on an issue, it lists the writer, cover artist, penciller, inker, . . . Now I can't find it. Was it all a dream like X-O #68?

Valiant Fandom is a great source for that, although there are mistakes here and there.

Yes, I googled and that's where I found the info. I still think it used to be on here before.

There's the old, now archived, site with a richness of infomation. I find for instance this:
http://valiantarchive.com/issue/show/297
but not creator information.

Going from Magnus' link, I think this was the page that had it, but it's gone now.

More than 20 years ago, in the before times. Where the children of tomorrow dream away.

I had to rewrite the Valiant website from Windows-based to Linux-based somewhere after 2004.
That was the same time I started this message board, because the prior board was lost in a webhosting company disappearance (many thousands of websites lost).

The artist lookup code was written before and there were multiple cases where artists were uncredited, or miscredited, which we heard from the artists themselves. The artist lookup used whatever was credited in the books and whatever corrections had been known. It was someone else's hobby, writing all those down from each book, and all I did was turn their spreadsheet work into a database lookup with their permission.

When I had to re-write the whole website, I didn't bother with the artist lookup. It had errors, we had actual artists pointing out those errors, and it even had collectors mistakenly seeking books which their favorite artists/writers didn't work on.

I had a feeling that it wouldn't bother too many people if that portion of the website went away.
Looks like I was right because this is probably the only conversation I've had about it since those days sometime after 2004.

Where the children of tomorrow dream away in the winds of change.

Ahh, yes. Thanks greg. Very interesting history and thank you for everything.

I was trying to look up some books for signing. I will double-check the books to make sure they are correct.

It looks like Archive.org does have some working code for the artist lists. This is as good as it ever was:

Sorry, I missed it. I saw where you posted all the artist credits for Shadowman Vol 3 #6 and thought, "that's not what we need".

I love that old version of the site. I completely stole that look for my old “Forgotten Universes” website I did before life got overwhelming and I stopped doing it. But I loved looking at all the covers and clicking on them to find out the info. Back then there weren’t places to go like that. Now you can find them everywhere. You were a true trailblazer, Greg.
