Jim Shooter has died
Sad day for any Valiant fan. Sadder still to see an obituary post that lays bare so many of his warts. It's time to let that all go now.

Re: Jim Shooter is dead
I just saw him at the Allentown Comic Convention back in April. I got a few pics with him, I'll post them when I get a chance.
Rest in peace, Jim.
Umm, I've forgotten... how can I post a pic I have in Onedrive? I can't get it to appear either as a pic or a link.
I was going to post pics at the time but he didn't look well... and I didn't wanna do that to him. I had no idea he's had cancer for a while now.
But for now...

Re: Jim Shooter is dead
This is a sad day for me personally. I've known Jim since the late 1990s. We became friends. Over the years there were good times, and bad, but we always remained friends. We both understood how things worked. He was a really nice person.
I will miss him. Oh, the stories I could tell. God's speed my friend.

Just boarding a plane. He will be missed. Saw him last year and thought he did not look well. It’s the end of an era. He will be missed,

Re: Jim Shooter is dead
While I never met Jim personally, he had a large influence in my life, as he did most on this board. I did get to interview him once for a comic book series that never came to pass so we did speak once in our lifetimes. I always considered him a genius and this hurts to see him pass.
RIP Jim.

Crushing. 73 is too young. I only ever interacted with him through email in the 2000s but he was always super gracious and willing to answer questions. The last 10-15 years he's been doing the con circuit and a lot of youtube interviews I hope he was able to feel the big impact he had on so many of us. His great work will live on and continue to impact people well into the future. RIP Jim

Re: Jim Shooter is dead
I'm always bummed when we lose a creator. This one has emotionally affected me more than I anticipated. I'm glad I finally had the chance to meet him in person a couple of years ago. Some had their issues with him, but the stories shared by others show that he was generous, gracious, and kind. No one can deny his knowledge, passion, and impact he had on this industry.

Syzhang, I appreciate you posting.
I read the link, and had no idea Shooter started at FOURTEEN
And you're right: the article was in poor taste at times.
The man certainly left a legacy behind. In that regard, he did good.

I've been looking everywhere for the ultra-rare Turok vs Blister issue. Anybody able to help me out?

May his memory be for a blessing. May it be that we remember him at his best, because we would not be here without him.
Few could be said to have guided comics so singly as he did in the 80s and early 90s. When they took from him, he built for himself. Admirable.

I was hoping to see him one last time at Heroes a few weeks ago. With his last minute cancellation and knowing what he was facing I feared it wouldnt be too long to get the news. It's a reminder to not take any day for granted. His creative work will outlive him for sure RIP Jim.

Wow, just found out when I clicked onto the board for the first time in a long time. I had such a great time meeting Jim back in the day at the Valiantfans get togethers in NYC. I still have my copy of Adventure Comics #346 that he signed for me. RIP Jim.

Re: Jim Shooter has died
Aww.....that's such a shame. I'm repeating a story to show the unbelievable graciousness he had to our family...Me and my sons (youngsters at the time) had a small room that we made a pretend comic book shop for a few months in a warehouse made into little crappy rooms in the early 90's at the same time I knew Shooter's mom Elephant. We had become friends when I showed up at her door in the early stages of Voyager. I mentioned to her the room one day and she immediately proclaimed, planned and put in motion a visit by Shooter. "Oh no", I said, "It's very small, smelly and I'm not sure Jim would even fit in the door." She insisted and one day, at the height of Valiant Pre-Unity he and mom showed up, both relative physical giants sitting in wooden funeral home folding seats in an eight-by-eight fake comic shop. He stayed at least an hour and told a bunch of stories. He gave me his card. It was a great visit.
I continued to stay in contact with Shooter's mom and dad. They were heartbroken when he was ushered out. I spoke with him a couple times after that visit and right up to the firing, he was full force ahead.
The best are usually liked by a few, hated by a few and ignored by the rest. For me, Shooter was the best.
Sorry to see you go Jim.

Re: Jim Shooter has died
I changed the title from "Jim Shooter is dead" to "Jim Shooter has died"
It's just a minor change, but it matches the feeling better in my opinion.
I'm happy to say that I did get to meet Jim Shooter several years ago.
I believe it was in 2009 in New York.
I'm sorry to learn that he has died. This loss is bigger for me than losing Stan Lee.
Everyone heard of Stan Lee, but fans knew Jim Shooter.
In some ways, Jim had more love.

Re: Jim Shooter has died
RIP.
Thanks for all the stories, sir. His run at Marvel was legendary and then of course, Valiant.
I met him only once - at Comicfest '93 in Philly, which I believe was the official launch of Defiant with a Con-only Warriors of Plasm special. I went to his talk and was shocked at how tall he was.
The man was a giant in the modern comics field - probably even a genius.
Losing Neal Adams hurt, but I'm really not ready for my Copper Age comics greats to start passing.

Re: Jim Shooter has died
A sad day across fandoms besides creating Valiant, Defiant, and Broadway comics and, Jim Shooter helped to create The Transformers more in the basic outline of the mythos and naming several characters and the factions and the planet Cybertron.
Shooter always wanted said he wanted to create a comic book universe outside my window, funny he that he did and the one in my home.
Like Peter David, I will miss Jim Shooter but I'm eternally grateful for giving me so much enjoyment and memorable characters that have helped shaped my life we all should be so lucky.
RIP. Jim Shooter you will be missed.
