Lady Death, Shi, Vamperella, Gen13, DarkerImage ...
Ugh! Man, at one point I was sitting on a hugh stash of "hot" comics ... had picked them up here and there and had amassed a nice collection. Never loved anything other than the Vamp books really. Had planned on trading them off at some point for other things, and never got around to it before ultimately somewhat loosing interest in the hobby for various reason.
Now its just a lot of good kindling it appears, except for those Lady Death cromium covers ... I don't think they'll burn!

Shi has a new series starting up from Darkhorse and while the values aren't as good as 1995 when the books were hot - I would guess that demand will pick up. Lady Death is also still being published by CrossGen , as is Vampirella (now in Magazine format too!) - I wouldn't go burning them up yet! (Ok maybe that DarkerImage book might be okR Daneel wrote:Ugh! Man, at one point I was sitting on a hugh stash of "hot" comics ... had picked them up here and there and had amassed a nice collection. Haha. How about those 20 issues of Deathblow #1? Youngblood? I just realized last night, after looking at a Liefeld (sp?) downs Deathmate issue how much I hate his art. The pages I looked at had Geoff in just about every frame, and in 95% of them he had Geoff in some sort of crazy "I'm about to jump out of the atmosphere" pose, and he had his mouth open in all of them like he was screaming, no matter if he was talking or not!johnhickman wrote:(Ok maybe that DarkerImage book might be ok
I still love my "The Maxx" glow in the dark variant issue.

All Image comics should be dropped down the nearest memory hole.R Daneel wrote:Hey, I'm just trying to share the pain of it all. Makes feel better about our Valiant collections, doesn't it??Ax wrote:Why are you people trying to make me remember all that Image crap?

No kidding...but how many of us picked up a bunch of that crap?
Even though there were no story lines, the art all looked the same and there was little to no imagination put into any of it. :x
That's why I have boxes full of stuff that I haven't looked at or added to for almost 10 years. Where as my valiant stuff I almost am constantly adding to and re-reading 10 years later.

Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?
Image was the result of creators searching to bring something new to comics. But. sadly, that vision was corrupted with the introduction of voluptuous women wearing skimpy outfits.
Some of the art was pretty good, though.

In Image, they had their in-house style. Meaning that everyone was a Jim Lee clone. But the Jim Lees (like Travis Charest, J. Scott Campbell, etc.) did some stuff that was really popular. Mainly because "Good Girl Art" had a really big demand back then.Knightt_333 wrote:Hell, I hear ya... when I see voluptuous women wearing skimpy outfits, MY vision gets corrupted as well, but then my wife drags me out of the titty bar and tells me to get my butt back home.
Just kidding... dont tell my wife I wrote this. Shhhhh here she comes... gotta go now...

Raney? Really? I thought he was doing DV8 at the time. Oh, now I remember. Renato Arlen worked on volume one.Knightt_333 wrote:Tom Raney... good stuff (well the INKER makes the artist as well)
Did you ever flip through Gen13?

I am still a huge fan of Gen13. I'm a nostalgist when it comes to those kids. I used to think Campbell was a god, but he never did anything impacting after Gen13. He did Danger Girl and that's it. Unless he does Superman or Batman, he will always be known as a "Good Girl" artist.Knightt_333 wrote:Sure did... J. Scott Campell was big time popular back 'in the day'. And heck, one look at Fairchild's brea.... well you know what I mean. hehehe
It's February. Dang. In this month, ten years ago, the first issue of the Gen13 mini-series was released. We gotta celebrate or something, man.

I have some of all the titles you listed. Depending on which issues you needed we might be able to work something out.Knightt_333 wrote:I still love the Stormwatch, Backlash issues. I am trying to plug THOSE holes as well. Anybody out there have any Stormwatch, Deathblow and Wildcats 'chum' that they want to unload ? (cheaply I mean, this will in NO WAY inhibit my Valiant collecting) hehehe
What was the guys name that drew towards the latter part of the Stormwatch days ?
By the way, have you read the new Wildcats series?
Yeah, man. Makes me feel old. I used to think those kids were the newest and hippest thing in comics! Oh, the irony.Knightt_333 wrote:I loved the mini-series.... ummm it was THAT long ago ?
Who was your favorite character? Least favorite?

Did you catch the Arcudi/Frank run on Gen13? They were the strongest creative team on the series.Knightt_333 wrote:I stopped collecting Valiant right after Chaos Effect.
I kept up with other titles probably until early 1998 maybe sooner.
But I lost that entire collection in my divorce (masser frakin' wench gonnakillmaimeburn errrr sorry).

Here are the best of Gen13:
1) #13A, 13B, 13C - It was kind of a mini-series within a series. Features Grunge's adventure through the land of Sequential Art. Very Funny. You can find it in the TPB Gen13 #13-A-B-C.
2) #26-#41 - Features the Arcudi/Frank Gen13 team. It was very "MTv Real World" kind of thing. Excellent. The first issues of the Arcudi/Frank run are found in the Gen13: I Love New York! TPB.
3) Gen13: Ordinary Heroes mini-series both penciled and written by Adam Hughes. Great.
4) Superman/Gen13 crossover mini-series. Written by Adam Hughes and penciled by Lee Bermejo. Excellent. The series is collected in a TPB of the same name.
If you want to see more of Campbell's art, pick up Gen13: Lost in Paradise TPB. The writing was poor, but Campbell's art was strong in those issues. Also, pick up Gen13: European Vacation TPB; it features art by Jim Lee.
You will find these at cover price. To take a walk down memory lane, check out my Gen13 website here.

The Arcudi/Frank issues of Gen13 were great. Fun, clever stories and great art. Highly recommended.
I also recommend almost any issue of Gen13 Bootleg, an ongoing series where each 2 or 3 issue story arc was done by a different creative team. Most stories were really good. You can probably find any of these books in quarter bins.

Oh, yeah. I remember those. Some issues were pretty good, but some were too short to make any impact on me. The first story arc was pretty good, #3 I didn't like, #4 was alright, #5 was good and #6 was a disappointing conclusion to #5.sakaridis wrote:I also recommend almost any issue of Gen13 Bootleg, an ongoing series where each 2 or 3 issue story arc was done by a different creative team. You mean the Bootleg? Bootleg was by many creators in every story arc.Knightt_333 wrote:Who drew the mini series ? I remember THAT is what hooked me. But honestly, after the series started, I kind of drifted away as I was looking for some powerful storylines. Maybe I was stuck back in the 'dark days of comics'. You remember, all those anti-heroes and stuff.

The first Gen13 mini series was drawn by J. Scott Campbell. I believe it was one of his first published works and the one that made him a star. I didn't really like his art at first as I thought he looked like an amateur Jim Lee, but he sure grew as an artist in the years that followed.
