Well, duh, lol.TimeWillTell wrote:Don't believe everything you read. When Acclaim acquired Voyager, Jim Perham was released, only to be hired to work in the operations department at Acclaim Entertainment, Inc.
He was a non-player with anything at Acclaim Comics (whether for the good or the bad). That's the truth. No one in the comics division actually wanted Perham's involvement in it no matter how hard he tried to get involved. Let's say it was a disagreement (again either good or bad) with everyone else in the division. He was never an amployee of Acclaim Comics.
There was no way the corporate heads at Acclaim were going to go ahead with Perham's comic book ideas. The division was lucky to be able to at least try and publish Unity 2000.
As I've said again and again, there were a number of reasons the series wasn't published. Stop harping on the Perham angle. It has no relevence whatsoever.

Perlham wanted VALIANT to publish VALIANT comics while Nicieza wanted to publish DC, Marvel, and Image comics. Of course they weren't going to let him in.

Waid wrote the first six issues of X-O Manowar, of course he was involved.TimeWillTell wrote:Waid was NEVER involved.

Read the interview. Perlham talks about a creator who was more interested in his paycheck than in what he was writing.
A few months ago over at Newsarama Waid admitted that he only took the job for the money (then he tried to sell a sob story about a sick relative).
This is a story separate from the U2K discussion, don't mix them up, lol.

"Make sure to pay Shooter, Starlin, etc." Total misinformation. Perham had no authority or clout to get anyone paid. Lost work? Sorry. More misinformation.
I'm not here to argue, or change your opinions. I'm simply tryiing to set the record straight on a few things. Believe what you want to.
-TimeWillTell
It's been publically stated by Shooter, Starlin, and Perham that Accliam hadn't paid everyone for their work when Perham took over.
Here's a couple instances:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/featu ... dex4.shtml
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts ... b1d3ec416d
(scroll down for Perham's confirmation Shooter hadn't been paid)
And Perham actually said the color files had been lost due to server failure on Unity 2000 4 and were being redone.
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts ... ac49371753
(scroll down for Perham's post)
I'm having a hard time believing ALL these people are telling the same lie. Especially when I have no idea who you are and how you know the things you claim to know.
And I agree that Perham wasn't much of a factor in the series being incomplete. I think Accliam ceasing to publish comics may have something to do with that.

I'm someone you've probably trash-talked about on this baord somewhere. Or blamed for Valiant's demise.
Question?
If fans didn't like Fabian's VH2, but liked what Shooter originally created, and Shooter was given basically a free-hand to set the universe right (as he saw it) What was wrong with Unity 2000?

As much of a free hand as Shooter had, he was still limited to doing what Marts wanted him to do, which was a story that favored the VH 2 characters.
He was free in choosing how to tell that story, which is why we got a new iteration of the VALIANT characters.
And U2K was flawed mostly because it wasn't a VALIANT story, it was a DC and Marvel story that used plot points and concepts that have been done to dead at both publishers.
And if you're someone we've blamed for VALIANT's demise then that makes you Layton or Nicieza.

Thank you for giving me your thoughts on why Unity 2000 was flawed.
No, I'm not Layton or Fabian. In fact, I didn't like VH2 either.
I think Fabian was under so much pressure from the corporate execs. to justify the Voyager acquisition, that he did whatever he could to try and make some money and turn a profit during a terrible downturn in the industry.
The corporate execs. didn't seem to understand the market and I think turned a blind eye to it.

Well, Nicieza has admitted many times that he came up with the VH 2 idea.
I believe Perlham when he says that Acclaim didn't care what the comic division did as long as it made money.
Nicieza's idea to reboot was completely unnecessary and came out more from a desire to throw some work his friends way to use their names as a marketting tool.
It had little to do with creativity and more to do with trying to turn VALIANT into something Nicieza could understand, basically the X-Men.

I don't think U2K was perfect, but I DO think it was the best thing Valiant put out after 1995.
I think part of the reason U2K seemed liked a DC/Marvel comic or whatever was that Shooter was parody-ing (if that's a word) the fact that Acclaim/Valiant had become so much like a regular, messy, comic booky universe.

Whoa, I didn't know that I was going to start all of this...
My thoughts, after reading the plots, I do think it's a bit bogus that it turns out that the VH1 universie was the false one and wiped out. I would have enjoyed more of a Crisis resolution, where the 2 were merged, but w/o a Solar (to stop anything like this from happening again).
But then again, that's why I'm not a comic writer, just a reader.

it was a planned revival shortly after Unity 2K. James Perham was the guy behind it and if I remember correct there was going to be a Dr. Mirage, Bloodshot (that looked nothing like the previous Bloodshots) and a Magnus one shot. It never went too far though.Sean_Jackson wrote:
What revival was that? I must have missed something somewhere.
