"Armor X"-O Ripoff
So, on the recommendation of a friend who knew I liked Valiant, I just read the first three issues of Armor X.
It is, quite possibly, the most blatant ripoff of X-O Manowar that I've ever seen.
Here is the "short list" of similiarities:
1. The armor is of Alien origin, and decides to bond with a native instead of one of its own race.
2. The armor is sentient.
3. The armor "flows" on to its wearer.
4. When dormant, the armor flows back into a ball shaped form.
5. The wearer of the armor refers to it as his "new skin".
6. Aliens who live amongst us and appear normal are trying to retrieve it.
7. The visual design of the armor is VERY reminiscent of the VH-2 Manowar armor.
8. The armor is capable of repairing human tissue, correcting eyesight, etc.
Those few elements of the book that aren't sheared directly from the flank of the X-O Manowar concept are just utter dreck. The protagonist was on his way to shoot up his high school's prom when he found the armor, and seemingly has NO redeeming qualities whatsoever (of course, we can expect him to somehow become a virtuous champion of good at some point, I would expect). The armor requires external energy sources for "food", and the armor also has a voice that we hear throught the series. And although the art is solid, the dialogue, pacing, and stereotypical characters come across as forced. We have the misfit loner, the mean jocks, and the one jock with a heart of gold who wants to reach out to the loner.
The sad thing is that it's Andy Smith art - and I rather enjoy his art, but I find it hard to support this title. *sigh*
Am I overanalyzing this? Am I overreacting? These things are possible, but tell me what you think by responding to the poll above.

If it helps you enjoy it (being an AS fan), I'm pretty sure Andy owns 50% of that book.

John: lol, Great man.... by virtue that Andy Smith drew Quasar and I obviously can't stop talking about that book on this forum, his Armored character is now awesome in my book (SEE, guys, Quasar IS everywhere!)
Byrneout: I'm going to steal your post and paste it onto the Invincible Ironman Forum under the "Other Armored Heroes" section. I haven't read the title, so your insight will be appreciated there!

Re: "Armor X"-O Ripoff
Actually, that DOES make me feel better. That way, I could see it as Andy trying to tell some of the stories he didn't get to do with X-O, and it takes on a whole new significance.John Taddeo wrote:If it helps you enjoy it (being an AS fan), I'm pretty sure Andy owns 50% of that book.
Thanks, John!
