Conservation means CGC's sister company, PCS, did some minor work on the book. Spine reenforcement, mending tears, pressing and acid baths are all acceptable. I suspect that if you had a professional that wasn't related to PCS do similiar work on your book you'd get a Restored label (or what would now be Apparent). Therefore, I find the timing of the Conservation label (right as PCS starts itself as a company) and the fallicy that tear mending and spine reenforcement by definition AREN'T Conservation but RESTORATION to be sickening.x-omatic wrote:Do you think that the Conservation Level will sell for more? If there were two on the same book graded 9.6 and one had the conservation label it would seem to be a better long term investment.
"deacidification will extend the life of acid book paper three to five times its life if left untreated"
Otherwise I'm okay with the changes even though I'm confused and a bit suspicious.

Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

I will never, ever again buy a CGC (or any other company's) slabbed comic. The few X-Men I have I will probably crack out, and the others will probably go up for auction. I will wait for the third Spider-Man movie to get close to release before I sell my ASM #252 in 9.4, however...

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I also do not like some of what they will consider conservation.whetteon wrote:Conservation means CGC's sister company, PCS, did some minor work on the book. Tear seal – should be restoration
Spine split sealed – should be restoration
Reinforcement – should be restoration
Piece re-attachment - should be restoration
Deacidification – Conservation.

And I also think Cleaned (aqueous) / Paper lightening should be considered conservation not restoration as it seems like it would go hand in hand with Deacidification.
I do like the fact that it will be noted in the grade number box which would make it easier to tell books that have been "altered" in some manner.

Man, folks sure are sensitive
..and living in a FANTASY world
What is the problem here? they (CGC) are attempting to clean up, and IMPROVE their product, and protocols.
What is it you nay sayers expected
100% perfection? get a grip on reality people, mistakes happen...it's what is done AFTER the mistake, that determines the path forward
I have little problem with these new labels, times change, and improvements are necessary!
I will continue to purchase CGC graded books, and submit to them as well. They've never been anything but professional as far as i'm concerned.

Did you even read the posts? The issue isn't so much the label change but what they are calling "conservation" instead of "restoration"Dissavowed wrote:Man, folks sure are sensitive..and living in a FANTASY world
