Here it is - I am a film student in Britain and am currently in the process of deciding what my first low budget fan film is gonna be. Until today it was gonna either be "Nightwing", "Gambit" or something from the pages of "AD2000's" comics, who are the good people behind "Judge Dread" and "Slane". However today was the day I discovered Valiant Comics. At the moment the front runner is Bloodshot but that could change. I mean I would love to take X-O to the big screen but that might have to wait as the "Good Skin" would cost to make look good and I can't afford or do I know how to do it yet! I am planning to start doing a treatment over the weekend and hence why I did my last post looking for Valiant fans in Essex. The reason being I am new but I think there is a lot of pontential in valiant character who haven't been as exposed as the big two's have. Anyway I think I may have found my way into combining what I love and what i want to be my career - making films about Valiant Characters

Sounds cool.... But you might want to talk about this to the new owners of Valiant first.

If you clear copyrights and need a good editor, yell my way. I've been editing for over 7 years.

It is my understanding that film students can get away with doing anything as long as they don't profit from it and the film is limited to the class room, so I don't think copyright is an issue (that's how some film students got away with doing a Lobo and Aquaman student movies).

My suggestion would be to do a short Shadowman movie. I figure that it could be done on a small budget.

All you need is a set to use as a jazz bar, a guy to play Jack playing the sax on stage, a hot girl to play the Spider-Alien vampire who seduced him, and someone willing to have his entire body painted white and then have Darque's tatts painted over that to play Darque.

If you get two hot girls you could even throw Sandria into it.

Take a cue from the Batman Dead End film.

I don't know how long the movie has to be but maybe you could make it a compressed version of Shadowman #1 through #4 with some changes, like get rid of the blue spandex suit and replace it with the biker jacket.

You would also need people capable of making credible props of the Mask of Shadows and the "Shadowman" shirt (the man standing on the doorframe).

If this happens and you need a writer, sign me up :)

Shadowman would be cool. Not sure about the copyrights but I don't think you should have a problem. I saw Batman Dead End in Boston and the director was talking about how it was legal because he didn't sell it. He said he even used it to show studios what he could do. Warner Brothers wanted him to direct Shazam based on it but I dont hes doing that now.

First of all thanks for the replies. Always nice to hear people not calling you insane or crazy like I got on my college course "what are you insane? Comic book films are C**P just look at Batman & Robin!" and then I have to explain that that was just a bad movie - END OF!

Secondly - yeah as long as I am a student doing a fan film not for commerical purposes then as far as I am aware I am good to go. Copyright shouldn't be an issue however if I ever do finish this project the first copy on DVD will be heading straight to whoever own's the copyright before it's posted online. I mean sure at first this is gonna be a low-budget fan film but eventually I would like to see Turok given the full Jurrassic Park meets Predator feel to it (only a decent film cause that idea sounds terrible now I read it!) and like Bryan Singer could direct H.A.R.D. Corps....uhm maybe not!

Thanks for the idea about doing a "Shadowman" short I will look into that and "Ninjark". To the editor - I may have an editor lined up allready but if not and you like are in England then yeah sure I might give you a buzz - got to write the script and shoot it first so it might be a while lol

If anyone else has ideas for there favourite Valiant characters and movie's on them post here it could be quite a good little topic *cough* and nice research for me *cough*

I liked the original outfit better.
It's too super hero and comic booky, not realistic enough.

The second outfit was more down to Earth and more credible.

A shirt with an image, a leather jacket, and a pair of jeans.

I know the original outfit may seem a little corny, but I liked it. The leather look just never appealed to me as much.

I think the jeans and jacket would translate a lot better, esp in a project like this . . .

Yeah I will kinda always go with the old style cause I kinda like corny but it would be whatever made more cost effective sense and certainly to have a suite made might not be so "guerilla indie" as the Jacket Look!

You're gonna make ShadowMan a gorrilla? Are you trying to cash in on the Kong craze or just a SA DC fan? Either way, don't go read that Superman V treatment . . . :P

This is very true I had forgotten about the very sane and real person of Eric Cartman. Not that I am cartoonist in any way shape or form but the show has a fondess for saying nasty thing about one of my favourite actors. I speak ofcourse of Ben Affleck so I don't pay any attention to any of the views spoken or thought by it's characters!

On a slightly more positive notes for Eric Cartman "I hate Hippies!" because I do lol they just smell and they hug tree's and believe me I've tried it and it's not as relaxing as they say it is. Maybe there high at the time....darn that's what I got wrong!

For the time being I am gonna keep all post related to my student fan film project for my course assignment in here untill I start seriously into pre-production then I might do a blog about it...who know's! Today I started the research and took into consideration all your posts when doing so. however I doubt I could do a Shadowman fan film - although it is on the shortlist. The Shortlist is - Shadowman, Eternal Warrior & Ninjark.

The favourite of mine is Eternal Warrior, although ironically have only come across Gilad in a Bloodshot I have cause I don't own any Eternal Warrior....yet!

Here is my concern that has creaped into my head after today I watched and cringed while I did watch once again the Hoff in Nick Fury agent of Shield! - WHAT IF MY MOVIE SUCKS? Now I know as much as any comic fan who much we grumble at the slightest continuity error in a film of our favourite comic book character. For me it was that Bullseye didn't have his proper costume in Daredevil....or that Wilson Fisk wasn't actually Black but I let that one slide cause it's not a biggy right? So my concern is if I stink this movie up I will get banished from this web site and hunted down and killed by hoards of angry Valiant fans and paper cut to death with issue's of whatever comic character I trashed!

Anyway either here or by e-mail to RikiWright@aol.com - I would like to know what one of my 3 shortlisted ideas you think would work best. Remember it's an incredibly low budget film. And I really mean that

If budget is concern then I'd definitely go with Shadowman.

Eternal Warrior would demand some sort of information about his background as an immortal, be it through flashbacks or expensive props.

Ninjak would also demand expensive props as well as an actor capable of using them (I'm talking about the swords). You would also need to create Dr. Silk's elaborate wheelchair and Webnet's hq.

With Shadowman you basically need a guy willing to be painted to look like Darque and for props the mask of shadows.

You should do some more research into the three titles to decide which one would be the easiest to do.

Thanks. yeah I intend to a lot more research before I start writing anything down in terms of script I just need to have a treatment done fairly soon to lock in certain people i want for crew. Yeah budget is a huge concern although I'm getting all equipment and editing done free and it's being shot DV so cheaper.

As for having people who know what there doing for the Ninjark that's not a problem. Because of what I am currently involved with, which is a documentary about Kung-Fu/other martial arts I have made contact with some incredibly talent people and I also have contacts with stunt men, stage combat teachers and a fencing club. I made these contacts cause at first way back in the summer I when I decided to do the course I am on I started to draft an "Elektra" fan film and knew I would need "The Hand".

Thanks for the help. But yeah I'm still researching for this

Cool.

If you have the people then EW and Ninjak can definitely be an option.

Because of the makeup requiered for Shadowman and the prop building requiered for Ninjak you may op for EW afer all.

All you'd need there is Gilad, a pretty girl, the Immortal Enemy, a simple plot, and lots of butt kicking. Maybe even have Gilad make a necklace out of some thugs teeth, heh.

Slight up-date not much really. I have started a treatment for Eternal Warrior and I have a meeting with a potential producer tomorrow. The working title is simply "Eternal Warrior". There are a few proposed tag-lines which i will post here (just a couple of them cause I have a few and a tagline is important to me for some strange reason I'll not get into now!)

1) Ain't nothing but a family thing
2) Imortality has it's downside
3) there can only be one? Now who's naive?
4) Eternity isn't as exciting when you live it
5) Now this is a never ending story

I am gonna throw out a question ok and don't kill me for it. Obviously I'll do the origin at the start thats without question but I would kinda like it to be a movie based on the characters and not the genius work of the people who created the comics featuring them. let me explain. how good would spiderman be if you could forget that it was spawned from the storylines of a comic? how good would the death of elektra be in daredevil if it wasn't a direct comparison to the genius of Frank Miller?

I want to do a whole new storyline. Pick up where the comics left off and look at it from a different angle. Mike Mignola or however you spell his name told Del Torro to put his spin on Hellboy and you know what he was right cause look at how awesome that film is?

The reason i say this is because I want to use his two brothers. The fact is I don't like just copying what other people do when i feel i won't do it justice. It would be like I would do a movie version of Daredevil and to me it would be like walking into Stan Lee's house and *SQUEE* all over his TV, in a manner of speaking.

Anyway I can explain that better once I know exactly where the story is going.

How long is your movie going to be?

I'd recomend concentrating on Gilad and mentioning the brothers in passing.

I'dalso recomend focusing on the origin and on the feud with the Immortal Enemy.

More comments depend on your answer to this question.
